Cuban's Karma

I could be going out on a limb here, but Mark Cuban is originally from Pittsburg, so I'm assuming he's probably a Steelers fan. Isn't it ironic that the Steelers won a Super Bowl that many felt was very poorly officiated the same year that his very own basketball team lost the NBA finals because of, in his opinion, bad officiating?

Is this karma, coincidence, or conspiracy?

Re: Cuban's Karma

I think Cuban's brand of ownership has helped and hurt the Mavs. During the regular season, how he's commanding the attention and getting on the refs can be a good thing. During the playoff run, I think it proved to be a distraction that the Mavs didn't have the heart and will to overcome.

I think the Mavs caught a bad case of D.Wade. The officiating was questionable....but the Heat had several people in foul trouble last night including Shaq.

Bad officiating didn't cause the Wade-rape.

I didn't watch much last night and I went to bed at the start of the 4th. However, at the beginning of the 4th in game 5 they showed the number of freethrow attempts for the game up until that point: 45 for Miami, and 15 for Dallas. Even if dallas was playing "Hack-a-Shaq" for the whole game, that seems pretty skewed to me.
Apparently Wade has followed in the footsteps of LeBron, in that if a defender looks at him a foul is called.

Exactly...add to that Mourning just smashed everything in sight! He was just ridiculous last night! The Mavs have no one to blame but themselves.

That foul shot Dirk missed at the end of game 3 will haunt him for the rest of his career.

Re: Cuban's Karma

Wade is unbelievable though. He was playing out of his mind throughout the finals.

I do think there was possibly a message being sent to Cuban...he will not and cannot intimidate the NBA. This bad blood between him and Stern will play out next year though!

Dallas fell into the same groove that lost them games 3, 4, and 5 - they shot jump shots instead of attacking the basket. When that happens, you aren't going to see the attempts, and the officiating will look worse than it is.

You're right about that, they were playing very timid after the first two games. However, I feel like dallas, especially Dirk, would get punished when they went to the rim but the calls weren't being made. Dirk got roughed up so much during the first two games in Miami that he seemed scared to try to drive, as he had been doing so well eariler in the playoffs.
However, you guys are right, I would say that either dallas lost this serises or that Wade won it before I would say that the officals gave it away.

Re: Cuban's Karma

Wade is great. MJ great almost. But when he ahs more foul shots than the OTHER TEAM there is somethign wrong with the officiating. The fact that no one is allowed to breathe on him without getting whiseled probably helps. I think Dallas got screwed but couldn't care less. The NBA sucks because of lots of things that all basically stem from the same issue. It is a star driven league with low team loyalty by fans and it comes as such. Stars can do what they want and there is little team play.

Re: Cuban's Karma

I think Cuban hurts the Mavs more often than not. He needs to learn how to take a step back at times and be less in the spotlight. I'm not a fan of this sort of owner/fan thing. He makes Snyder look like a boy scout.

if it weren't for cuban the mavs would never be in the finals. he's made the team better and turned the economics into a windfall for himself (well, except for all the fines). I don't think having an owner rush the floor that regularly is a good thing, bu as far as the mavs go, cuban's worked hard to turn them into a team that can compete.

Re: Cuban's Karma

Some owners see their team as an "investment" but not Cuban. Cuban is passionate about his team and that's very respectable but sometimes he really goes too far (being a zealot rather than a fan). Miami won those games fair and square and I highly doubt the NBA is conspiring against him…that's just sore loser talk.
