Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

Well, believe it or not we are a game out. We win and we will be in first place due to division record if I am not mistaken. Haven't beaten the Giants in an eternity, but we have been pretty solid at home. We are due to stick their dicks in the dirt so ..........

Yeah no serious injuries. Possibly Eli, ODB, and JPP just maybe tweak something bad enough this week so that they can't participate?

Revenge situation. Coming off a bad loss. Lot of wounded pride. At home.

Skins 31
Giants 10

Utter domination

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

I am copying my post in another string as I think it's a pretty accurate summary of where we are:

Looking over the schedules, Dallas and Philly are in trouble, and I think the division comes down to the Redskins and Giants.

Dallas probably has 3 more losses (and maybe more) in its future. They play: Panthers (10-0), Packers (7-3), Jets (5-5), Bills (5-4), and Redskins (4-6) twice. I don't see them beating the Panthers, Packers and both the Bills and Jets (even taking us out of the mix). That puts them at 10 or 11 losses and out of contention.

The Eagles situation is arguably worse. They will probably lose at least 3 more and possibly more, as they play: Lions (3-7), Patriots (9-0), Bills (5-4), Cardinals (8-2), Redskins (4-6), and Giants (5-5). I don't see them beating the Patriots, Bills or Cardinals, and right now I like our chances and the Giants' chances against them too. That puts them at 9+ losses.

The Giants are the team to beat, and we simply must win this weekend in order to be in contention. Their schedule is a bit tougher than ours, but we cannot assume we can lose to them twice and win the division. They play: Redskins (4-6), Jets (5-5), Dolphins (4-6), Panthers (10-0), Vikings (7-3), and Eagles (4-6). I figure they likely lose to the Panthers and Vikings, and maybe the Jets. So maybe 8 losses.

As I see it, we have to go 4-2 with one of those wins against the Giants if we are going to take the division. Our opponents have a combined record of 21-28: Giants (5-5), Bears (4-6), Bills (5-4), Eagles (4-6), and Cowboys (3-7) twice. If we can beat the Giants, I think we have to beat the Bears, Eagles, and Dallas (at least once), and then we're both at 8-8, with a better record in the NFC than the Giants (who in this scenario lose NFC games to us, the Panthers, and Vikings, bringing their NFC record to 2-5).

Both teams ought to be thinking that this weekend's game will likely determine the winner of the NFC East, and I suspect both will. And I hope we come to play. Since we seem to play every other weekend, let's hope this weekend our D and running game decide to show up.

Fingers crossed:

Redskins 27
Giants 23

Amen -- well said. May the best team win. And may it be the Redskins.

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

IMO, the money right now is on the Giants winning the division if for no other reason than Coughlin and Eli. Eli can be up and down, but he is clutch and I can see him going on a run of good performances as we draw closer to December. The Giants coaching staff is proven, they will have them ready.

With that said, the 'Skins have to be looking at this game as a must or at least near-must win kind of game. Bad division or not, how big would it to be for the team and the fan base to see "Washington 1st place in NFCE" going into December with 5 games left? Usually right now the fan base is looking at possible draft position.

The thing about the NFC East is that even though it is a bad division, it also keeps every team thinking they can win it until they are officially mathematically eliminated so especially in division games we should expect to see that extra fire in teams to go out and win.

I will be honest and say I am just not ready to say we will win this game. The Giants are not a much better team than us, but I think they have a few intangibles that this team is not exhibiting yet.

However..................I am going to go against my head and go with my heart. Hopkins kicks a GW FG as time expires. 27-24 'Skins!

Once fear I do have is that if we beat the Giants, it might set up the Cowboys to play the role of spoiler at the end of the season, and that would be heartbreaking. But I have a feeling that if a win against Dallas puts us in the post-season, our guys will be ready.

I have real admiration for Coughlin. I think he's an excellent and underrated coach, and has gotten the most out of his team more often than not. And after his early reputation as an aloof hard-ass when he was in Jacksonville, I sense that he and his players have true regard for each other.

Think of it this way: it would be possible for us to clinch a playoff spot AND a last place finish for Dallas in week 17.
