Re: beer kegarator

i have 3 major hesitations w kegerators

1 - i like a ton of variety and not sure i could stick with one brand for weeks at a time

2 - cleaning ... is probably a pain in the butt. half the bars you go to have dirty lines. ruins the beer.

3 - stale beer? im not sure if this is a valid concern but id be weary of a kegerator keeping a half barrel fresh for a month.

.. i want to brew my own beer though. no idea how. but i want to try.

You can build your own. If you get creative and look you can find an old fridge for cheap or free. Also a chest freezer works to but you need an external temperature controller to keep the temps above freezing. I made one out of an old fridge and use the freezer for frosted mugs. If you google keezer or DYI keggerator there are tons of examples and instructions on how to build them.

Cleaning isn't that hard you just have to be sure to do it between kegs. Most good beer comes in 1/6 barrels now which is about 5 gallons which isn't that hard to go through. Also if you like variety homebrewing is the way to go. I have 5 taps for 5 different brews in my keggerator and 4 are homebrew. Homebrewing is quite easy and there are many ways to do it depending on what scale you are looking at.

Hey not sure if you are into the whole, "home brew movement," but there are some pretty cool options you can use to brew and keg your own beer. On top of it all, you can still purchase traditional kegs and use within your system if you get lazy.

Great resource for this is,

Chest Freezer Specs and Layouts - Home Brew Forums

Where they elaborate on the different layouts of standard freezers you can get on Craigslist and convert to a kegerator with the correct equipment. Certainly worth the time and energy.

Godspeed.

this may sound weird, but i have to be honest here ..

i love you and i love this post.

i mean it. i have butterflies in my stomach just thinking about a 5 tap kegerrator filled with easy to finish 5 gallon kegs of craft brew?

how come no one tells me these things exist?

craft beer comes in smaller easier-to-finish baby kegs?

im so flustered right now.

im am def getting a 5 tap kegerator.

yall cant be keeping secrets like this to yourselves. just plain selfishness. not cool.
