Re: Cooley Comeback?
No
He could still be on the short list of those I'd call if one of our guys went down with a season ender. But he wants to be wanted now, and I can't say I want to want him.

Agreed. As a 3rd stringer you typically want that guy playing special teams and I don't see that with Cooley. He was probably just thinking out loud anyway... he's got a good gig in the booth and besides, what athlete doesn't think they could still play? Just ask Favre. |

Re: Cooley Comeback?
And given that Reed and Niles have receiving as more their strength than blocking, you need the 3rd TE to be a good blocker at minimum. Paulsen is a toad but he at least fills that need.
Cooley would just be more of the same style of receiving TE threat. He wasn't bad as a blocker in his heyday but 33 is not his heyday.

Re: Cooley Comeback?
I'm just not sure why a team would want to take a chance on a 33 year old that's slow and doesn't play teams. i mean, he's not going to stick around for a long time, and at best he could have what? 200 yards receiving? If I'm a team, I just don't see the upside.

Re: Cooley Comeback?
While I agree, wouldnt it be great if Cooley cameback and dominated again?
It would give this franchise/fanbase a much needed lift.

Re: Cooley Comeback?
Nobody wants a slow ass TE that doesn't play special teams or block efficiently. Probably just talk. Cooley is very good at the job he's currently doing and I'm glad he's found his niche after football.

Might as well wish for Riggo to come back. A few weeks of camp would probably change Cooley's tune real quick. |

Re: Cooley Comeback?
I wonder if this isn't partially motivated by Cooley's long rumored financial problems. That obviously drives alot of "comebacks" when ego isn't involved.
He was here in Winchester, VA, a few weeks ago for the grand opening of Dicks Sporting goods, and he was charging for autographs and a ticket in line to get to meet him, etc.. I have a friend who works in the store, and allegedly they were told beforehand that Chris has recently started doing lots more of these type of things because his financial situation is described as being "in peril". I know he was almost cleaned out by his divorce. He has / had an art gallery in Leesburg that i believe was keeping him going for a while. Not sure what a booth salary pays but it may not be enough to pay for the life that he was used to living. Would still be Cool (no pun intended) to even see him get a tryout or something here....

Re: Cooley Comeback?
I'd pass on this. I wouldn't bet that he makes it out of camp without an injury.
Nothing against him, but the odds are not in his favor. |
