Redskins Are Looking for a Way Up

Veterans Try to Keep Players United After 1-4 Start

I decided to post this here as well as in the news wire, a very worth while read.

At least the players are keeping their heads up and not second guessing themselves and bickering, we're taking care of that here, LOL.

And for the people who questioned Arrington's leadership a few weeks ago, please take note of this article.

I think I know a way the defense can help, now i dont condone hurting a teammate but if brunell was unable to play because of an injury sustained in practice that just might spark the offense

Just wanted to add something this thread. This is Matt Bowens weekly column on the Washington Times. Take a look at it see what he says about this team....

I have to tell you the D has been much better then last year and I say way to go. But like John Kerry would say "But"....When your O is this bad and lets the other team score on you more then the D dose its going to be along year. It all starts with the line and lets face facts the down 5 are just not that good. Need a center....Maybe a Guard and two Tackels if Jansen dosen't come back next season. All of you are always on Bowens but Samuels is not that good. What a Bad draft pick he was. He coast the team two first round picks that year to move up for what? We could have picked better staying put and picked up two or three starts. Top off season need get someone in here that knows talent!

Success is measured in more ways than your won-loss record. What a dramatic change is taking place with the Redskins this year. We are building a foundation of unity and togetherness that is really the prerequisite for any consistency on the field.

We have replaced half the roster this year. We have not only a new coaching staff but a new de facto leader of the organization. We have an entirely new system the players are learning. And yes, through the experience on the field we are going to have to reenvision that system and adapt just as Gibbs and staff did 23 years ago. So there is a great deal of change and you can't reasonably expect that we will somehow become the New England Patriots overnight.

This is an organization that has been suffering through a crisis of leadership and direction for a very long time. Patience is the keyword here. It will take some time.

I'm very hopeful because of the kind of thing you see in this article. This bodes very very well for our future.

The crisis we are going through now is really a blessing in disguise because it is at times like this that you are tested and challenged to demonstrate character and unity - or go the other way and point fingers and scapegoat others.

Despite the won loss record we are on our way as a team - just as we were 23 years ago at this point in the season.

I really enjoyed both articles, espcially Bowens. I've always been a fan of Bowen, just cause my dad liked him so much for that hit he put on Canidate, lol. I was happy he was having a good year, I think Franz is going to have a decent season, Williams should set him up to succeed.

Your Right Matty, were the only ones doing the bickering, luckily. Hopefully a win will just turn this thing around, it will be really easy to start a streak at this point in our season. I've been saying that the past two weeks too, cause I thought we could have/ should have beat them too. A win against the Bears will make me rest easy for two weeks.

I really enjoyed the Bowen article.

RedskinPete, I can't disagree more about Samuels, he's having a very good season, what are you seeing that perhaps I'm missing??

I agree we could use an upgrade at center, but I think it's too early to be writing off Dockery. He's been pretty solid so far and he should continue to improve under Bugel's guidance.

Jansen should be back at full strength or very close to it next year, the one positive about his injury is that it happened so early.

Please tell me how a 3 time pro bowler is a bad pick? Don't judge Samuels on his performance last year. So you think cutting everyone and starting ALL over again would make this team good? That's just bulls*** . You obviously don't know too much about football. I'm sick and tired of all these posts that say we need to get rid of this person or that person. Stick with what you got, and move forward. It's only week 6. Things can turn around. Be patient and have faith..

I guess you're referencing me Matty, but you've misquoted me. I asked why Lavar wasn't on the sideline with the team and you said I should check my facts, that Lavar was the last guy to question, that I was wrong for ever questioning Lavar's loyalty. But I never questioned his loyalty to the team, I suggested that Lavar's energy was vital to the team. But Sunday night Lavar is on the sideline, so was I totally off base? Heck no, we question everything in here and will continue to do so. But I've never questioned LA's leadership, he's the unquestioned leader of this team, if anything I questioned his leadership style. But then again, he was on the sidelines Sunday night so that kind of proves my point.

Injuries happen and I'm not going to comment on the severity of LA's injury because I know nothing about medicine. And I do know that not playing is killing LA. I put up my post on LA to say that I think he's too important to our team to be hanging out in the owner's box during a MNF game. And the only shot I saw of him that night was hanging out in the owner's box. If he was on crutches and under doctor's orders to stay off of it, ok. But no one knows that for sure, unless LA is a member.

The expectations surrounding this team were unreal. I didn't even read any of the predictions that were posted, but I don't think anyone projected us to be 1-4 right now. The calls for Ramsey were predictable, but that's a panic move that Spurrier would make, not Gibbs. He named Brunell the starter for a reason, so all the guys calling for Ramsey are in essence saying that Gibbs doesn't know what he's doing. After 5 games! These are probably the same guys who wanted to fire Schottenheimer after the first week of training camp. But that's how we got into this mess, trying for the quick fix and scapegoating guys. We'll fix this because Gibbs won't rest until he fixes this, and even though the players may have changed, football is football.

Oh, and Samuels has been disappointing so far because he has not lived up to his potential yet. Biggest indicator so far, where do we run on 3rd and short?

I believe there were a few people questioning LaVar. Point is if he could have been on the sidelines I believe he would have, it's just hard to believe he would be up in the box joking around while his team was battling on the field unless he had a good reason to not be on the field.

Funny I've noticed us running to the left side behind Dock and Samuels quite a bit, maybe I'm missing something.

As for where do we run on 3rd and short, is backwards the answer?
