More from the mouth of Fred Smoot

From today's Times:

Cornerback Fred Smoot, upon learning that teammate Shawn Springs grew up a Cowboys fan and once owned a pair of team-inspired underwear: "He's got Cowboys underwear? I should have slipped him some Ex-Lax."

Gotta love this guy!

Here's hoping Smoot's reactions are as sharp as his wit on Monday Night, and he gets a pick or two against Testaverde.

That was a beautiful line about Springs. Smoot never fails to entertain!

Smoot played amazing in game 1 and VERY solid in game two. In my opinion he's been the unsung star of our defense thus far.

His play (coming up and making big tackles) has really impressed me this year. I don't think he'll pull a Champ and leave. He seems like he really enjoys playing here.

Let's not forget Shawn Springs either, he's doing a great job on the other side

Have they even thrown to Springs yet? I never hear them call his name, nor have I seen his number turned and chasing after someone. Not noticing a cb (except on his blitzes) is normally a good thing.

Springs is definitely one of the unsung heroes of this defense so far. He has a sack and a forced fumble as a blitzer, and though he doesn't always get to the quarterback, his speed off the corner cats has been disruptive. I don't recall seeing him get beat by a receiver, either. So far, he's performing to the level he said he would when he came here to replace Bailey.

He has his work cut out for him against Keyshawn, though. I detest Me-shawn with every ounce of my being, but the guy has been very effective thus far with Testaverde throwing to him, and he is going to be Springs' toughest assignment to this point.

I've always liked Shawn Springs.

Looks like the stuff about coming home and the Redskins etc was BS - he's a damn cowpoke fan!!!

I know he's from Silver Springs but...

I actually spent my 28th birthday in Silver Springs (just to see what it was like) bought myself some boots.

Just found out I'm getting either an Arrington or Coles jersey from my brother who lives in Arlington.

I have completely lost track of the thread, haven't I?

Smoot is the man!!! The entire defense has been playing beyond expectations. Coach Williams obviously knows his stuff. We lost nothing by losing Champ. He didn't want to stay here anyway. I really believe Smoot wants to be here and with the new coaches (whom I'm sure will be here more that one season) I think Smoot will be around for a long time!!! Let's hope so.
GO DEFENSE!!!!!
