I love Middleton's comments.

How did this guy ever get a head coaching job? He's one and done in Oakland.

Good coordinator but I he had a pretty extensive audition here for 7 years and he failed miserably as a HC.

I thought the Raiders passed up a bunch of coaches they should have given more consideration to over Norv.

I don't know Matty, is he a good coordinator? Has he ever really succeeded with mediocre talent? In Dallas, he had Aikman/Smith/Irvin. In Miami, he had Williams and the only thing that worked was the running game.

I think Norv was an average coordinator who knew how to use the talent at hand BUT I am beginning to think he operates more on reputation than anything else.

To my knowledge, he has never got an offense to exceed the sum of its parts.

What a difference from how players feel with Gibbs. His player manegment skills are crucial to getting everyone on the same page. And the players trust him because he shows them respect. Norv just never seems to get that. Gonna be tough out there by the bay. Still, a few wins will help sooth things. We'll see.

And over yonder? Why, it's our old friend, Warren Sapp, the self-absorbed Pro Bowl defensive lineman who took his huge hulk off the field for a couple of important plays on the Steelers' final drive, the one that led to the winning field goal with seven seconds left.

"I came off the field. Is that a problem? I should never come off the field?" Sapp snapped when asked about it.

"I would guess you would want to be on it as much as possible," someone said.

"I guess you'd be wrong," Sapp replied. "No."
i'd feel real good about seeing my team pay some guys millions that didn't want to play...

Al Davis wanted a spineless jellyfish to coach HIS team. And he got one.

Norv Turner is a coach of the Raiders for two reasons. First Al Davis is an dumb ass. He had all these better options like Charlie Wiess or Jim Fassel and he picks that fool from dallas first and then Turner. Second because this is a racist league. There was were only so many good white coaches left so Davis had to go with Turner. I remind everyone that AL davis could have Romeo Crunnel coaching his team right now, but he got turner instead.

The Redksins generally had a top 10 offense when he was here but never had a decent defense. His main problem is that he has no instincts for managing a team. They call them head coach but really they are managing the team. That's what Gibbs does. He brings in the best help he can and gives the team direction and the coaches make sure it happens. Gibbs keeps the personnel in check and motivated and keeps morale high.

You realize that Al Davis actually hired both the first black and the first hispanic head coaches in history right? Charging Al Davis with racism strikes me as assanine since he is generally regarded as the most opne minded owner in the league in this regard.

I won't dispute that league history is full of racism on the sidelines but the league is trying to get better and focus on making a fundamental cultural change.

PS. This will be the last time I ever show any type of support for that retard Al Davis. I just thought the whole racism comment was out of line in the context and tone it was presented.

Hold on a sec!! I don't like Al Davis any better than anyone else here, but let's at least TRY to be reasonable and fair. Don't make racist accusations that don't fit. I seem to remember VERY early on, a Raider head coach with plenty of pigment.

I hate the Raiders as much if not more then the next guy, living here in" Raider Nation "! I deal with the trashy wanna be gangsta Raider fan daily! So it makes me happy ever time they lose. Just thinking about all the Raider fans out there crying in there beer brings a smile to my face ever time!
But they did give Art Shell a job as there head coach for a few years. And I think he was the first Black Head coach in the league. So I don't know if you can say there racist.
Al Davis might be a total jackass but I don't think he is a racist.
I feel for Norv he should have stayed in Miami!
