Smoot: Time to sit on the bench.
Smoot is one of my favorite players but he is an automatic first down for offenses this year.
It looked like he was benched for a series in the 3rd quarter. When he was back in, gave up a 3rd and short, right after the completion, he put his head down and walked off the field. Torrance made a good stop late in the game. I think smoot is either injured or completely lost it. It's probably time to bench him. |

he made a few key plays today. I think our D did an outstanding job all around today and don't really get why you feel like calling him out...
did you see something I didnt?

Re: Smoot: Time to sit on the bench.
Smoot isn't a great player, but he's decent. Doesn't get injured too much and remember, he did snag an interception last game. But to say he needs to be benched is a bit of a stretch.

He also had a tip that Horton reeled in today. Shutdown no. Serviceable? YES

Maybe his back/hip were re-aggrivated.

Re: Smoot: Time to sit on the bench.
I'm hoping that's it. He's too young to have lost it.
I saw him give up 3 consecutive 3rd and shorts by giving up too much cushion. I think he gave up a total of 5 first downs all by giving too much cushion. Corners get beat and I can live with that but he was playing scared. You have to make them earn a first down. He did make a great play breaking up the a pass that was intercepted but that was his only solid play. |

Re: Smoot: Time to sit on the bench.
coverage overall looked pretty good today. bush as a running back is a joke. if you got gap control he's a total pushover... no ability to break tackles (he's still a great returner and WR though).

EE21, Landry always plays that deep.
I don't get the Smoot hate this week. As someone said earlier his break on a ball tipped it to Horton for a big INT. He played good coverage. Honestly, I can't even think of a play where he blew it. The only player that totally blew a coverage that I saw was Springs sitting in the flat on the TD toss.

I'd rather have a guy out there playing not at 100% (and doing decent. Not completely sucking) rather than riding the pine like a wimp with a minor, playable injury. People are acting like Smoot is playing God-awful football and he's NOT.

Re: Smoot: Time to sit on the bench.
I don't get it. Smoot took a nasty shot in the opener and has been rehabbing the injury. If he was a step slower than usual today that is the logical reason. His coverage in NY was above average and Smooty always plays w/ attitude. Remember the shot he gave to Hassellback in the playoff game last year? Priceless.

I haven't had time to review the tape, but he was a lot better today I think.
