How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
"Springs is still regarded as the team's top corner, and his ability to play the nickel position in their sub-package makes him critical member of their defense. However, opponents have noticed that the former Pro Bowler's skills have started to slip and few regard him as a top corner in the league."
Writing was on wall for Henry - Bucky Brooks - SI.com IMO Brooks is taking the worst observations of Springs and trying to make them the status quo. While Springs was a step slower last year I thought his skill level looked at or near its peak. Also, I think Brooks is way off in assuming Springs is disgruntled. He spent last year in AZ getting into tip-top shape and it showed last season as he stayed healthy. Who's to say he isn't taking the same approach this year? Also, w/ the tragic circumstances surrounding his father it wouldn't surprise me if Springs is spending as much time w/ his family as he can. I'm still a Springs fan (obvious, isn't it) and I think we're a better defense when he is on the field. Though his presence during the off-season would be good for the rooks especially I think it makes little difference for Shawn. We've heard Blache say again and again the defense will be simpler, and Shawn flourished even in Williams' complex schemes. Thoughts?

Love him...he can still play and he is without a doubt the best CB on the team.

He played great last year except for the playoff game against Seattle. Maybe he has lost a step, but he is still the best corner on the team.

Re: How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
If I remember correctly he had a bum leg (hammi) against Seattle but it was his only real injury during the season.

Re: How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
When Healthy, He is a very good corner. Unfortunately he had a tough year last year and with his age, You can't expect him to have a 16 game season.
Without Springs, The redskins don't make the playoffs last year. He virtually saved the season with his game in chicago. Also, Who is going to replace him? It's not like we have a young superstar waiting for playing time. He is still the best corner on the team. Last edited by jamf; 06-06-2008 at 11:52 PM. |

Re: How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
He is easily our best corner and I'm glad we have him on our team. We could be doing a lot worse without him, when healthy he does a fine job and I'm not looking forward to the day when he isn't effective anymore. I think as he gets older there's a chance his skills will diminish but they certainly didn't drop off last year, I think last year was probably his second best year as a Redskin behind 2004.

Re: How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
SS is clearly the best corner we have on the roster at this time, no doubt. An elite corner that hes not, and never was IMO. He has done a decent job in DC when healthy, last year was a pleasant surprise he stayed healthy and had one of his best years for the Skins.
I don't see this article being to far off base. Lets face it SS is aging (has been injury prone) the team has tried to move/trade him with no success. But right now I'm glad hes here because as the article stated I also think we will need a healthy SS at the corner position, because he is the best we have available at this time. I also looking at the numbers, his contract and his age and see this being the last year for SS in DC. On the bright side I do look for SS to have a strong season for the team I think he knows he will be playing this year to get his last couple year deal elsewhere.

I think Springs is a good mentor to the youth we have in the secondary.

Re: How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
I agree with just about everything said in the first post. Another thing that isn't really mentioned much is that people are trying to imply he's upstaging the new coach, but I think people forget Springs and Zorn were together in Seattle. Albeit on different sides of the ball, but they do have a history together and know each other and their habits quite well.

Re: How do you feel about Shawn Springs?
Everyone is giving SS the benefit of the doubt, as it pertains to him not showing up in OTAs. I think its a load of crap that he is not showing up, i cant recall one season where the guy stayed healthy the whole season, so what really is the benefit of him training in Arizona? Maybe he would be better suited training at the redskins facility with the skins strength and conditioning coaches.
