Want the Rock?
I am new here and I am sure this topic has been discussed but I would like to bring it back into discussion. I am a very big supporter and advocate of who I would like to call "True Redskins". True Redskins being the likes of Darrell Green, Sonny J, Dexter Manley, etc. Now, with that said I would like to think of our free agent to be Rock Cartwright as a candidate to become a true Redskin. Rock is a free agent and it makes me a little nervous to think someone that is so passionate about playing for the Redskins could be leaving. I hope this isn't the case and I hope we can resign him. I believe Rock is the kind of guy who can show up big on special teams and anywhere else he may be needed. I think he is one to boost team morale and fan morale (as you can usually see him on the sideline being very vocal on whats happening positive or negative on the field). I hope others on here would feel the same way as I do.

Re: Want the Rock?
I like rock, but I'm much more worried about other players. I think we're going to get overhauled if we switch to a west coast offense (which I hate) and a 3-4 rex ryan defense. I heard that if he went to other teams that weren't built for it, (rex that is) he wouldn't implement it, but who knows...
I actually like the idea of the 3-4, but not the west coast....

Re: Want the Rock?
Rock is one of my favorite Redskins, and I truly hope we resign him. I don't think he'd command huge money on the open market, but Vinny has a lot of work to do seeing as we're $20+ million over the cap. We also have 6 draft picks, hopefully at least 4 of whom will be worthy of signing to the 53 man roster.

Re: Want the Rock?
I have always loved having Rock on the team and want to see him stay. However, if he is looking for either a big payday or more playing time in the backfield im afraid we will have to part ways.we cant pay a lot of money to a guy who only gets in on a handfull of snaps a game on special teams. So unless he either gets better than ladell Betts and moves up the depth chart or is willing to take a low contract you may have seen Rocks last game in a Redskins uni unfortunatly.

Re: Want the Rock?
Rock is what he is. A serviceable kick returner, above average special teamer and 3rd string tail back. I love the guy but he isn't worth the kind of money I suspect he wants. He's really only barely better than a vet min guy in all honesty.

Re: Want the Rock?
And I'll add, all of this talk of "True Redskins" is a little silly. I think what Gibbs means when he says things like that is that the guy conducts himself as such. I don't think it has much to do with longevity or pure love of the Redskins.
I think we'd all agree Fletcher is a "True Redskin" and he's only been here a year. We could find someone to replace Rock and his "True Redskinness" rather easily I suspect. |

Re: Want the Rock?
I second that. All reports are the that he's looking to cash out (and who can blame him, it's party of the ethos of this organization) but he's no Devin Hester. No one kicks away from the guy. I'd love to keep him but it all depends on the #s.

Re: Want the Rock?
You can't expect everyone to be Hester. A Hester comes around once in a lifetime really.

Re: Want the Rock?
Is Cartwright an Unrestricted Free Agent or is he still a Restricted Free Agent? Sorry, I am not as familiar with your roster and do not remember when he was drafted.
If unrestricted then you have to concur with FRPLG. But if he is restricted, just offer him the low rookie tender. If some other team goes after him, the Skins get right of first refusal and can get a draft pick in compensation if he leaves. |

Re: Want the Rock?
Let Rock test the waters.... hes a gritty guy and if he lands somewhere and makes better money, more power to him, as long as its not in the NFC East, ugh hem Brian slut Mitchell

Re: Want the Rock?
He's a solid return man that gets decent field position. He doesn't break them for td's though. Good guy, like his spirit and enthusiasm but pay him according to his skill which is alright but nothing special.

I disagree with you on his value to the team, he's much more than a special teams star, he's one of the locker room's big motivators. Even when he's on the sideline, he brings a lot of energy and passion to the team. I'm not saying we should toss a huge contract his way, but he is a guy we should retain. |
