Gibbs' decision results in win

There's been a lot of negative threads about Gibbs' situational decision making this year, but I want to take a moment to give the 3 time SB Champion coach some love for making the decision to kick the FG down on the two yard line. It was a big decision and he certainly was entertaining the thought of going for it on fourth with a chance to end the game right there.

If we were to get stopped, I don't think the Saints would have had any problem getting in FG range. We would be in OT right now.

Instead, we get a week to savor an upset victory over the Saints, so lets enjoy it!

People are going to find it tougher and tougher to criticize Coach Gibbs as we continue to put some wins together now. I think people who criticize the man need some smelling salts to return them back to reality. I mean, the man has won three Super Bowls, I think he knows what he's doing. Correction, I know he knows what he's doing.

EXACTLY.
I got some flack for saying it was the right decision when it happened, but it was the right decision!

To be honest, I probably would have gone for it if I were the coach. But I'm not, Gibbs is, and we won!

Make them work for it. Don't make it easy. If we went for it and missed, we'd be in a world of hurt.

Right, because it was the 4th quarter.

If it was any earlier in the game, I think you have to go for it, but with 4 mins left, you play the percentages, make them beat your redzone D.

Gibbs just said he looked at the distance (to make a 1st down) and if it was less than a yard, he would have gone for it.

Nice call Joe!!!

Re: Gibbs' decision results in win

Defense stepped out and they were stepping up all game. If they weren't we would have gone for it. To be honest when they were marching I thought we were going to lose and if we did I wouldn't have blamed Gibbs for kicking the FG.

Re: Gibbs' decision results in win

that baldinger fag or whatever his name is was calling gibbs out for that...i definitely agreed with the call. carney is a good kicker, and if we didnt get it, which i dont think we would have honestly, the saints would have been able to tie the game up pretty easily from the position they were in

I honestly wanted to reach through the TV screen and choke Baldinger. It was an easy call for Gibbs to make. No way do you go for it in that situation.

Re: Gibbs' decision results in win

If Brees completes that pass in the end zone, then most skins fans would've said Gibbs should've went for it. Gibbs would've went for it (as he stated in his presser) if it had been just a little closer...after all, we didn't have to go for the TD, we could've picked up the 1st down first. The point is, I don't really believe Gibbs' decision to kick the field goal had anything to do with our win today as much as it was our defense who came up with the big stop at the end of the game.

Re: Gibbs' decision results in win

gibbs knew the defense had been awesome today and trusted them to not let new orleans drive the field and score a touchdown

What you fail to comprehend though is that if we fail this 4th down NO marches down the field well within field goal range and instead of going for it on 4th down they kick a field goal and send the game into over time which most likely would have been decided by the flip of a coin.
