Cowboys Sign Roy Williams Through 2010 Season
Cowboys Sign Roy Williams Through 2010 Season
Aug 2, 2:57 PM (ET) Email this Story OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - The Dallas Cowboys signed Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams to a four-year contract extension Wednesday, securing the hard-hitting run-stopper through the 2010 season. Financial terms weren't immediately available. "I am going to be a Cowboy for life," said Williams, Dallas' first-round pick in 2002. "I'm staying here." Williams, who turns 26 this month, had 81 tackles, three interceptions, 2½ sacks and a touchdown last season. He had a year left on his contract and would have become an unrestricted free agent after this season, but the new five-year deal replaces the 2006 year and adds four more. Williams is the second player to sign a major extension in the past week or so. Tight end Jason Witten agreed to a seven-year, $29 million contract on July 22. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said more contract extensions are in the works. Notice how they said run stopper, not burnt toast cover safety. The quote that he's "going to be a Cowboy for life" is deja-vue of Arrington saying that he was "going to be a Redskin for life" after signing his contract extension in '04. |

I am glad they signed Roy. I know he can't cover Moss and Lloyd destroyed them last year as well. I am not even worried about Dallas. Romo will be starting by week 5. The G-men and Eagles are the real threat. |

They overpaid for him. They'll be in salary cap hell in a few years and they won't be able to sign any free agents. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if they have 20 rookies on their roster next season.

lol at AMD, good job on your Pete Prisco impersonation.
Anyways, this is great news for Santana Moss, and any other wideout with speed in the NFL.

we skins fans know that every season, around every corner the skins are heading for cap hell. and then walah, 3 or 4 new free agents get signed. its almost as good as watching a copperfield magic show( i know this is a reach)

That isn't very funny. Dragging the matress down from behind? That was funny. I don't know why Roy takes that angle and/or looks to pull a player down from behind. I suspect he always wants to have an effect when tackling and maybe he feels the Collar style involves more punishment for the ball carrier in his opinion. Why doesn't he just take out the ball carrier around the legs? Don't Know.

Re: Cowboys Sign Roy Williams Through 2010 Season
He's probably afraid that he might get kicked in the face. That's a serious concern when tackling someone, although pros probably don't think about that too much.
