And Joe Jacoby was added that year as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville.
Joe Gibbs didn't know he played offense. He was so big, Gibbs assumed he was a defensive tackle. |

Yeah, 1981 was undoubtedly our best draft. That draft class looks like a Pro Bowl roster.

That is a truly unbelievable draft. I wonder if any other team has ever had a more productive draft than we did in 1981?

wow, that's just amazing.
dallas may have had some good drafts since they had about a billion extra picks for a few years before their SB runs. |

That draft, added to the talent we already had on board, was the foundation for our glory years. After that year, Beathard traded our number one picks nearly every year for established players to fill in roster spots, I believe.

What are the chances that Snyderatto could draft a class like that?

We added Joe Washington that year also. But I don't remember how-trade or free agency. And Riggo unretired!

http://espn.go.com/melkiper/s/2001/0419/1175890.html Hard to argue with the Steeler's class of 74: 1st: Lynn Swann 2nd: Jack Lambert 4th: John Stallworth 5th: Mike Webster Regardless of whether you think Swann/Stallworth HOF worthy - they were very good receivers and made huge contributions to the Steelers teams. Personally, I think that the Skins' 81 draft certainly qualifies but it is so subjective that you could argue the top five forever.

Re: A Blast From The Past- THE 1981 DRAFT
Very impressive class of 81. I don't think we will ever draft that well again-- free agency has really changed how the NFL works. Plus, first rounders are getting insane amounts of money these days. It almost sucks to have a top 5 draft pick, esp if it is a QB bust.
