Speaking of New coaches with a rookie QB, Mike SMith won right away and now has one of the best YOUNG teams in the NFL

But I don't think any of those guys are clearly better choices than our current coach in our current situation right now
Not bad choices.

I know I'm going to be either shooting myself in the foot or I'll cause this board to continue on with this response, but, IF Shanahan were to be fired (which again I'm against and I think we should let him finish his contract) I would look into:

1) Russ Grimm- he has that steelers organization background having coached there, and he knows this franchise very well and could relate back to how a super bowl team is built from his days with the Hogs. He would be very liked by the players and the city. Only problem is that he may not want to come here and hurt his ties with this team if he should flop as a Head Coach (or vice versa for Snyder towards him coming here)

2) Ray Horton- Defensive coordinator for the cardinals who knows the steelers background of coaching a team, like Grimm. He's young and we need a guy who can inject energy and good defense into this team.

3) Mike McCoy- He's fairly young and he was able to win with what he was given (Orton, Tebow, Manning) any QB from complete crap to hall of famer and he had winning results with all them.

4) Mark Trestman- This guy has quietly been a key coach to players success. Look at his track record in the NFL; He developed Jake Plummer and a 4 win cardinals offense to 9 wins. He later went on to the Lions taking a 5 win lion team to 9 wins and the playoffs. At the U, he was the QB coach who developed Bernie Kosar and made him into a national champion in 83. He's worked under Jimmy Johnson, Bud Grant, Jon Gruden, and Marty Shottenheimer. The only negative about him is that he's been out of the NFL since 2008, where he's been coaching Montreal in the CFL to a championship and winning records.

5) Chip Kelly- The good about him is that he's young, smart, has a good attitude and has a proven winning record, who is always well prepared and runs what some NFL coaches say is the best practices scouts and coaches have ever seen. He is a fast paced guy that loves his speedy players. The (huge) question is can this college football coach make the jump to the pros? Would the redskins really want to go the college coach route again? (its a HUGE gamble) And does Chip Kelly bring in his option fast paced offense to the NFL? or does he keep the simple NFL stuff?

Yeah BUT... Ryan, Turner, and White have stayed healthy. That trio of Passer, Rusher, Receiver is something that has eluded us for... well since almost forever... Not to mention Kroy Biermann, Akeem Dent and Robert James bringing the pass rush.

We simply do not have the basic positional function to win.
Passer - Receiver - Rush - Pass Rush. We have 1 1/2 of 4

I don't believe the MS resigning,no way that's happening
Garret being gone is much more believable
Payton's a free agent,Dallas would be crazy not to pursue him
