OK. Now let's look at receivers taken in the top 10 in the last ten drafts:

2009: Darius Heyward Bey (Bust), Michael Crabtree (jury still out)
2008: None
2007: Calvin Johnson (Stud), Ted Ginn (Bust)
2006: None
2005: Braylon Edwards (Decent), Troy Williamson (Bust), Mike Williams (Bust)
2004: Larry Fitzgerald (Stud), Roy Williams (Decent), Reggie Williams (Mild Bust)
2003: Charles Rogers (Bust), Andre Johnson (Stud)
2002: None
2001: David Terrell (Bust), Koren Robinson (Bust)
2000: Peter Warrick (Bust), Plaxico Burress (Stud), Travis Taylor (Bust)

I see A LOT more red in that list than green, which has been my point that drafting WRs high is extremely risky business. I would prefer the Skins to invest high draft choices on the lines and on LBs to fit the 3-4. Address WR with a proven commodity via trade or free agency.

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

I wouldn't go with the bust label with DHB yet. His deal was that he was a very long-term project. Not one year or two years.

Ultimately, that was the deal with Devin Thomas as well. We needed to spend longer developing him if we were going to bother with him at all. But taking Kelly and Davis in the same draft kind of killed that ability to develop the guy. It became more of a competition for playing time than a long-term development project.

And his draft profile suggested he was going to lose that battle from the beginning.

i second that, and not to mention he should have been drafted around 25th not 7th or where ever he was selected. and he is also in oakland without a qb.

I hated taking Thomas/Davis/Kelly the day Vinny did it, and I still hate it - and yes, I even hate the Davis pick (with DeSean Jackson on the board). At this point, we may as well start Davis at WR to at least get him more targets in the offense.

I'll always wonder what would have happended if instead of drafting 2 WRs we draft at least 1 if not 2 OL?

I'm telling you, Julio Jones is just as good as AJ Green is.

Look at my post above on WRs drafted the last 10 years. Every one of those guys were studs in college too. Green and Jones could just as easily flame out at the next level. QB and WR may be the most difficult positions to predict success in the NFL.

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

you can't coach effort and motivation. we just need to study more in our drafting of WR...if that is even possible.

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

People forget Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders weren't drafted, both were USFL castoff's. What the Redskins need is an eye for talent, forget the round they are drafted in. Rod Smith wasn't drafted, Drew Pearson wasn't drafted, plus a host of other WR's with successful careers .

We will not take a WR with our 1st round pick and you can take that to the bank.

Kinda like when Colt got cut huh? He was a fan favorite but could not play. Went to Raiders and got cut there to. Maybe Shanny knows more about players than us the fans do.

Well when you been coaching as long as Shanny has It should be his way. Its not like Devon is Jerry Rice. He has not played more than a minute in the NFL. Hey he got a nice check for Thirty something catches in 3 years.

Re: Redskins release Devin Thomas

What was the strategy here? In order to build trade value, other teams at least want to see him on the field. Using him on teams only killed his value.

Considering that Vinny drafted 10 players in 2008 and only has one starter to show for it, yes, I would call it our worst draft EVER!
If not the worst it was sure like way to waste 3 2nd picks. I like Davis he is a stud needs moree time on the field. Kelly is always hurt and DT look like Tarzan play like Jane. I would say thus far we blew that draft.
