I hope he's pissed. So pissed he pulls a draft day Eli. Which somehow benefits us, either by acquiring him or RG3.

Hypothetically though, I guess the reason to do it this early if they were to do it would be as a selling point to potential free agents. Instead of saying "we're trying to get RG3" they would get to say that they pretty much will have RG3 come April.
To that point, it would definitely help and hurt us to acquire the pick sooner. On one hand if we acquired it earlier it would help in creating a definitive plan to improve the roster, as Dirtbag said, but on the other hand if we waited until draft day to do the trade odds are decent we might pay less in terms of draft picks.

From what I'm reading it's owned a gossip media conglomerate and some people online ("read random people on twitter and various forums") say it's credible.

On the other hand it's a tabloid site and the trade this early makes little to no sense, even as a selling point to free agents.

Ok. I kinda dismissed that article because it's from a highly non-credible source. Which is a kind way of saying I've never heard of that site before you posted that link, and I've been following NFL news on the internet since 2004. But the info in that article is basically what SS here has been suggesting might happen.

But when you say a trade "this early" makes no sense, define how early would make sense to you. I think a trade on the eve or during the first couple days of FA makes sense, especially if the trade suitor market dries up. Like I said if the Redskins pull the trade now, sure it might hurt in terms of draft picks, but it would also help us in saying "ok, this is how many draft picks we have left this year, and this is our available cap space, now lets fill holes via FA and the draft", versus "ok we might have a tough time signing Vincent Jackson with no future qb in place, and we also have multiple options with which to proceed in regards to that future qb, but no definitive road in sight."

Well, unless you guys think that there is still a chance the Redskins go after Peyton, I believe this thread is pretty much finished now that the Redskins have traded three 1's and a 2 for RGIII.

Well of you fully read the news article posted on the left column of the main page here you will see at the end of the article by ESPN it says the Skins are still going to try to land Peyton Manning also.

Imagine we get RGIII and PM and a couple decent WR's and an OL. Woohoo.

Did we really trade 3 first rounders for number 2 pick? I love rg3 but that's steep. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do for your franchise qb

Peyton Manning and the Redskins were never meant to be. Robert Griffin III and the Redskins are meant to be. So, let P. Manning sign with Denver or Miami or whoever he chooses in the AFC. We have our quarterback. The only thing remaining to do is select him on draft day.

We're not getting Peyton Manning. That's a HUGE long shot at this point. That isn't to say I wouldn't want PM on the team now that we're at #2, but that's not happening.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

I would hate to think that Peyton Manning didn't want to come to the Redskins because he thought the team wasn't good enough. Facing Eli Manning twice a year would have made for some interesting football and headlines. If that was the reason why he didn't want to come, then I respect his decision. But I didn't want Manning anyway because for one, he's not a young quarterback anymore, and two, signing him to a contract would have been too much of a risk. I'm glad we did the right thing by trading up and getting RG3/

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Once they realized that Peyton wasn't interested they could not take a chance and lose out on RG3. I said this on page 15 or so, we had to come out of this offseason with a franchise QB regardless of cost. Yes we got raped, but I do not care, draft picks are draft picks some work out some don't. I think RG3 is the real deal and I can not wait to see him on the field for the Washington Redskins. Shanny will have plenty of cap room and will need to use the free agent path to fill some roster needs like we did in the past. I know the draft nuts will explode once they see this deal, don't argue with them its a waste of time.

Could trading Orakpo get us back in the first round this year???

RG3 Redskin! Now go get him some o-lineman and some burner WR's.

It makes a lot of sense if the Browns were making a push to get a trade done now and steal it away from us. IF someone else is pushing hard for it now, so do we. Reports were Browns made an offer but we had already made an agreement and the Rams didn't renege on our handshake deal.

Unless he chooses us, we cannot afford to have Andrew Luck empower an NFC team like say, San Francisco.
