Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
I have dreads... but luckily, I'm not white? No one's ever complained. Hah.
Anyway, change the name to Warriors and be done with this. We'll probably get booed at every game now. I'm surprised they haven't started marketing anti-redskins products.

1) like you said- make a change that can't be challenged and move on. or 2)Commission an unassailable polling company to conduct an extensive Native American only poll, and have proof one way or another. And the poll shouldn't be about where the name ranks in problems, it should be very cut and dry. Are you ever offended by the use of the term Redskins. not does the NFL team using the term Redskins offend you, or do sports team names that use Native American imagery offend you, or any other variety of poll splicing techniques. Just a cut and dry is it an offensive term period. I also believe that the legalistic word play answer just isn't going to make the situation any better in the long run, and with public media tending towards the change the name crowd, the Redskins position is only going to get weaker over time. |

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
HTTR24_7 posted this - not saying the uniform/name would change, but just as something he liked if it came to it and I could like it too. Change the stars and line under the W to gold and the letter W to a dark Burgundy.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
That is pretty weak. I'd keep the same logo just change the name. If they bitched about that, I'd hope they'd tell them to eat a d*ck.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
Far anything is bad. For example the way the Far Left tackles obesity is a virtual mirror image of the tactics used by the Far Rights approach to sex education. IE rather then just educating, stressing moderation, and being overall pragmatic the shift focuses towards just f****g ban everything.
No condoms, no sugary drinks, EVERYONE JUST SIT NATIVE AMERICAN STYLE IN THE CORNER AND STFU!

Miami U. offers to help Washington Redskins with name change - CBSSports.com Semantics wise I wouldn't mind RedHawks save of course the fact it would mean changing the Native on the side of our helmet not to mention we would be the 15 billionth team named after a bird.

Thanks the kicker of course comes when a set of Far-Left parents and Far-Right parents learn their children are having unprotected sex amidst a sea of empty Coke bottles and Icee/slurpee cups.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
If we change the name, I might have to turn my fan card in. I fell in love with the Redskins as a kid, not the Redtails, Red Sox, Red Warriors, Redman, or Red Robin. Players come and players go, but that team name stayed all through these 80+ years. Other teams have changed names and done all kinds of bullshit like that, and for people who say it is the same as the "N" word.....GTFOH.
Rant over.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
Um, the name won't change. This decision is going to be appealed by the redskins which gives them continued trademark protection until the appeal is heard. Last time, the appeal took four years to be heard.
Further, the appeal is likely to win based on the same reasons it won back in 2003. The argument is no different today than it was then.

They are trying to make this like the gay marriage controversy.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
Danny wants to maintain tradition but the name controversy doesn't seem to be going away. I think the best option would be to call the team the Washington Braves. They started out as the Boston Braves so Danny will be retaining a part of team history while opponents of the Redskins name will be pacified. The colors, logo, etcetera would not have to change. Hell, the term "braves" is in the fight song. Just my two cents.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled
That's what I'm saying, call them Washington Football, or just Washington, and keep the logo, colors and uniform the same. That would be better than any of the stupid names like Redtails, Warriors, Generals...
