Why not spend our money on a LB, S or CB? Please someone tell me why we should waste big bucks on a receiver beside the reason "he is big and psychical"..cough..Michael Westbrook..cough cough anyone?
One game?

WR is a need because guys like McCardell, Caldwell and Thrash are probably on the way out. So at the very least we need some depth.

Outside of 2005 Moss has been disappointing and not a #1 caliber WR.

Sometimes you have the June 1 cuts which I believe are allowed to be spread over two cap seasons, but the total Release Fee amount must be accounted for.

Lloyd's release fee is $ 7.1M, his salary is $ 4.2M, dead cap will be $ 2.9M, much more manageable, especially when he was completely non-productive.
OK, thanks...I think I get it now. I didn't even see those tabs the first time, I appreciate you pointing it out. I do have a couple questions:

I if they get traded does the same release fee apply???

I am also curious as to how it works for those with a smaller release fee than salary...does that mean we get that many back towards the cap?

No kidding.
It's like I said before the season started, last year was Lloyds last chance to become someone in the NFL, if he didn't, he would never be anyone special. I was right about it, however, I was wrong in thinking he would do well for us last year. It's a shame to have that much talent wasted. Damn shame.

I haven't heard any rumors on Caldwell or McCardell, have you?

Also, knowing we need depth, and IMO an upgrade, do you think we'll look at Keyshawn Johnson? He has said he would interested in all 32 teams regardless if they will go 1-15 or 15-1.

In your version of football, who does the QB throw to? Of course WR is a huge part of the West Coast Offense..

Redskins are rumored to have concerns about Caldwell's knees. I'm hoping he shows he's healthy enough to stay because I think he could be quite good for us.

And we've got another thread going on Key

What about McCardell? I thought he was a great pickup.

Doesn't mean we can't talk about Keyshawn here, we are talking about which WR's to bring in.

Re: Which Current NFL Receiver Is Best for Us?

I said Larry Fitzgerald...since most of these are dream situations anyway...I like everything about him....attitude, play, work ethic....I wanted him out of college. I really think Moss and ARE would work well out of the slot more. I could see Synder going after any of these guys really...or I could see us not getting anyone new and working with Espy and Mix...but the thing is with Zorn just coming in, he doesn't know those guys at all...and free agency is getting ready to start....so I say Snyder goes after someone.

Fair enough about Key (although I guess technically he's not a current NFL receiver), I thought maybe you didn't realize there was a dedicated Keyshawn thread. I think he'll end up in Miami if anywhere

As for KM, he's a free agent and not likely to be re-signed.

1) Yes

2) Yes, for example if Phillip Daniels was released there would be a charge of $ 770K, but his salary of $ 3.7M would come off the books. A net cap savings of about $ 3M.

I think you're right, but something in his voice on ESPN earlier today made me think otherwise...especially when he said he'd be interested in all 32 teams. I know that was to try to make the blow to going to a 1-15 team easier for him mentally, but it just seemed like he'd be interested in other places. Hard to judge him right now. He likes Parcells for some reason, and he knows he will be the best WR in Miami if he goes there, but he could do really well elsewhere and not suffer through a horrendous season too. I for one would take another job for the chance of winning. Going through a 1-15 season would be torture.

Is this because he is going to retire again, or we are not interested in him, or maybe other teams are interested in him?

WOW...so why haven't we dropped Brunell? That would save us 3.4 mil.
For that matter, why not Daniels too? Between the two that would save us 6.387 mil for dead weight!

Not really sure what will happen with KM. As for Key, I think that the Dolphins are most likely to give him close to what he wants (money-wise)
