Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Imagine mcnabb in the shotgun, with portis and westbrook in the backfield moss and devin thomas as our WR's. You've got portis to block, and westbrook to catch in the backfield, and devin thomas and moss as deep threats. Thats sounds scary good to me.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
We haven't dropped a dime yet so I don't see the problem. Parker is most likely getting cut. Westbrook, Portis and LJ.
Spell all three of them and we should be ok.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I'm hoping that having Torain in the backfield comes to sound even scarier.

But as much as some of you guys think Parker is out...there is a distinct possibility that Westbrook could be brought in to "teach" parker on how to catch from the backfield like Westbrook did...i know Parkers speed is not that great but he still has flashes that Portis and Johnson do not have that are neccessary when catching a 2 yard pass out of the backfield. The reality is that it would be highly unlikely that Westbrook would join the Skins for nothing more than a small shot at the 3rd RB role...why on earth would he want that? Only 2 reasons....McNabb, and revenge on the Eagles for releasing him...and as someone else pointed out...they cut Dawkins too soon.... I am sure McNAbb and especially Westbrook are out to prove to the Eagles that they bailed on their stars a bit too early...that is REALLY motivating. Keep in mind that Westbrook knows his top performance capability would come with McNabb since they can play catch with their eyes closed. Outside of emotional reasons though...there is no legit business sense for Westbrook to join the Skins and we certainly aren't going to pay him high $. He's got to make money...he is a year or two max from retirement...he's lucky to be playing this year if he can pull it off...concussions are scary If he joins...I'd be thrilled....just not holding my breath. He'd be a great fit considering all the factors.

It's not that I don't think it can work, but just a word of warning that these sum of all parts scenarios usually play out a lot better on paper then they do in real life. It's great though that we finally have a QB. I'm looking forward to which random nobody breaks out and has a big year kind of like Pierre Garcon and Ben Utecht for the Colts in recent years. The Westbrook scenario though reminds me of a timeless GTripp quote on par with Lotus's banned winning quote in that we are continuing to acquire players in our attempt to win the 2004 NFC East.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
It probably should be mentioned that the Shanahan offense doesn't have a third down back in the offense, as his philosophy is that his roster of backs should be interchangeable regardless of down and distance.
In general, the Westbrook skill set is out of place in the Shanahan offense, however, I could see him being signed and returning punts (along, obviously, with getting his 70-80 carries and 20-30 receptions). Outside of that, I don't see him getting signed to replace one of the three vets we already have.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Even that season, Kyle didn't use a third down back. That might have had more to do with heading into the season planning to feature Ahman Green at RB than a failure to understand how Steve Slaton would adapt to the NFL game.

i dont see westbrook as a return guy. if shanny/son and company think he can contribute more than parker, by all means, welcome.
