Why are you taking Andre Carter out?

Re: Updated: Redskins Trade for Vikings DE Erasmus James

There's nothing about this move that has me jumping for joy, like problem answered OR we now have some stud at DE, couldn't be any further from the truth. This guy has proven he can not stay healthy could not even pass a recent physical in Minn., what makes me think he all of a sudden will? Nothing!

I will take a wait and see approach on him, first off just see if the kid can pass the physical tomorrow. If so we didn't as it appears give up much of anything for him IF he happens to make the team. If we get VERY lucky maybe the kid can provide depth at DE for us something that surely would not hurt. But with his injury track record I'm not very optimistic about him providing much of anything to our team.

Alright thats fair, but not every 3rd down situation. We don't exactly have a Justin Tuck type that can move inside (save Daniels but he might be moving to DT anyway).

Thats awsome, that his line coach was Palermo, and he wanted him. He must have liked him alot more tha Calais Campbel, who he passed on twice.

I will take the wait and see approach on this one as well. Worst case scenario is that he doesn't make the team and we lose nothing. Best case is the knee is repaired and he has a good year rushing the passer and we lose a 7th rounder. Tremendous upside to this deal if it works out and very little risk. I would take those kind of deals all day long.

I remember this guy coming out of Wisconsin a few years ago and he was a monster. But he hasn't been able to do much of anything since he turned pro and there is a reason Minn basically cut the guy. Good pass rushing DE's in the NFL don't get cut or traded for 7th round draft picks if they're any good. I just don't think this guy can play at the NFL level.

jbcjr -- worst case scenario is he makes the team, we lose a 7th, and he does nothing. For those of you complaining about the 7th round pick, it comes down to the waiver wire. If James were waived, we wouldn't necessarily have first crack at him would we? Wouldn't other teams get first shot?

Either way -- good depth. There's a chance he could become a pass rusher -- I doubt it. However, he's a very very good backup for us.

Back to back to back knee injuries are the major factor with James being released.

Re: Updated: Redskins Trade for Vikings DE Erasmus James

I don't have much of a problem with taking a chance on him, except for the fact that we could have paid him the vet min, instead of 1 mil base he is do now, due to the trade. I hope he does not make the team because I think Wilson will be a 6-9 sack guy and I want Evans and Buzbee to be the other 2 DE backups. WE NEED A NICKLE DB!!!!! We were 16th in pass defense last year and we had Taylor and Rogers for half a season(ranked No.1 before they went out). We are going to have our season ruined by bad pass defense!!!! That is the only issue I have with Cerratto is that he is not good at evaluating a roster. Any GM would notice this glaring need, but Cerratto sees Springs and Smoot and thinks we are set, when any elite football guy would say wow we are thin at DB. We can not put our season on the hope that Springs will play 16 games, which he has only done 1 time, since signing with Washington. We should have drafted Carl Nicks instead of Tyron and then got Tyron in the 6th, where he was projected to go, or drafted Scandrick in the 4th over Tyron because he is so much more physically gifted. I like Synder's enthusiasm, but he and Vinny just do not know how to properlly evaluate a roster, particullarly depth and they do not understand the value of certain positions, just the obvious positions like WR and RB.

I don't think James will make the team. I don't mind the Skins giving him a shot though.

Also how do you start a thread on this web site, because I really want to discuss this Fred Davis pick. Mark my words: Three years from now, we will be on Warpath asking ourselves how the skins could pick Davis over Bennett, who our rival Cowboys picked. He is an awsome blocker, which we need at TE and an awsome redzone target at 6'7, with a 34 inch vertical jump. He played B-ball and could dunk over his coach. Yes, he had 49 receptions, compared to Davis' 62, but most scouts agreed he was poorly utilized at Texas A&M and he was a junior, where as Davis is a senior. Davis only had 38 receptions as a junior and he is a converted WR. Bennett will be WAYYYYY better.

Wait and see, a next year 7th round pick for an ex-1st rounder i'll take that worst case he gets cut if we start him on 3rd down pass rushing situations and his age is great 25, we might use rotate DL and keep them fresh lets wait and see at least it gives us something to talk about.

Yeah even though I don't think he'll be able to cut it for the 'Skins, if it does work out a 7th rounder isn't that high of a price to pay for him. And if he doesn't work out then no loss.
