Re: -----------Fake Redskins fans-------------
I guess I'm an old-timer, but if anyone is complaining about "fake Redskins fans," they obviously weren't around to enjoy the Redskins bandwagon phenomenon during our Super Bowl years. Tony Kornheiser would write columns every week in the Post, exhorting the citizens of DC to "get on the bandwagon!" It was so much fun: all of a sudden, checkout counter clerks at every Giant Food grocery store, every schoolteacher, every grandmother, every person in town couldn't stop talking about the Redskins. For the '92 Super Bowl, the Washington Post even distributed free "Bandwagon" bumper stickers with the morning paper on the Sunday of the NFC Championship game against Detroit.
Just enjoy it all! Sheesh! |

1. See it the positive way: more "fans", more merchandise, more money.
2. My opinion: You can change your wife, your car and you political opinion. But you can never change the team you support. |

Re: -----------Fake Redskins fans-------------
These people who call themselves fans and prove it by how many stats they can quote or how completely they know the depth chart are a joke. Can you be more insecure? All you have to do is love the Redskinsa s a team or love Joe Gibbs or love a player.
My mom doesn't know shit about football or the rules. She couldn't tell Ladell Betts from Jon Jansen. She sometimes screams that there was pass interference on that 3 yard run by Clinton Portis - that's why he only got 3 yards, and throws up her hands in disbelief that the refs missed that one. But she is a huge Redskins fan - watches every game and has been a fan since the 70s. She lives and dies with the Redskins' wins and losses. And she gets discouraged when they lose. She still watches the games but she may turn a blowout off early. She may not talk to much about them during the lean years. This year she's talking about them a lot, particularly lately. Does this make her less of a fan? What an asinine thread. |

Re: -----------Fake Redskins fans-------------
I'm 49 years old and was born and lived in D.C. through college. I've been living in St. Louis for the past 25 years. I always wear Redskin gear. I constantly get harrassed by locals, the fair weathered Rams fans. Everytime the Skins come close to St. Louis, I'm at the game. I go to a local sports bar, Ozzie's, every week to see the Skins, win or lose. When the Skins lose, I feel like someone close had died. When the Skins win, I feel like a kid on Christmas day. Is that a true fan?

Re: -----------Fake Redskins fans-------------
The last three games have felt like the playoffs. All week, prior to the game, I've had a quesy feeling anticipating the game. During the games, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, a deep down sinking feeling when the Skins were behind, and an absolutely uplifting spiritual elation when they took the lead. The most uplifting moment was when Daniels came around the edge and knocked the ball loose from Detmer and caused a fumble and then there was a scrum, scrambling for the football and Sean Taylor emerged from the pile with the ball sprinting down the sideline to paydirt. I ran through the sports bar with him. I can't remember that type of emotion since Doug Williams bombed Denver in the Superbowl or Daryl Green returning a punt return for a touchdown with a broken rib or John Riggins bouncing off-tackle versus Miami to win the Superbowl.

Re: -----------Fake Redskins fans-------------
Obviously, there is no definative answer to the question "What is a Redskin Fan" ? To many variables that cannot be measured. I kind of liked,.............I think it was 5rings who said "the number of new bogus fans you get is a measure of the teams growing popularity" (more or less). I like that

Re: Fake Redskins fans
(forgive me if this has been said already) Ill tell you what really gets me, coming from a fan from birth...how when the Ravens came to town and won a quick Superbowl, soooo many people were overnight "Ravens fans". Now that they suck and our Skins are contenders again, theyre back to the Burg. & Gold. Seriously, keep your purple jerseys, we really dont need your one month of cheers.
ps- these "analysts" can bite me too, i dont need to hear what you think of my team now, they got this far with all of you doubting them. |

Re: Fake Redskins fans
loved the skins since early 80's. but because i move around so much with the guard i have a hard time getting to see many games. usually have to settle for highlights and internet updates. hopefully now they will get more air time.
