in 2015, the redskins made Trent Williams the highest paid offensive linemen in NFL history. They did this despite numerous suspensions for weed and injuries keeping of the field. Trent WANTED a front-loaded contract, and the team gave it to him. This resulted in the back-end (2019 and 2020) not being guaranteed. Trent knew this, and signed the contract. It would seem that his plan, all along, was to play during the front-loaded portion of the contract, then hold out unless he got a new contract (presumably also front-loaded).

Essentially, Trent wants to have his cake and eat it too. His plan has to essentially try to take advantage of the team in such a way that every year he actually plays football that all (or almost all) of the contract is guaranteed. With few exceptions (Kirk Cousins), this is just not how NFL contracts work.

To be honest, a team would be stupid to trade for Trent. He is not honoring the contract of a team that made him the highest paid player at his position before - why would he not do the same thing to his new team as soon as the guaranteed money runs out? In a sense, it would be like having an affair with a married woman and then marrying her yourself. You can do it, if you want. But dont expect anyone to show you any sympathy when she cheats on you with someone else.
Trent can take $10-$15 million (plus incentives) per year or nothing....his agent can wine all he wants and the Redskins and their trade partners will not budge

Yes, but Trent and his agent have been in a bubble of delusion for over a year and are doubling down on their stupidity and insanity. There are no signs of that changing any time soon.

Lol!

From burgundyblog:

So lemme get this straight… Trent's agent wants to 1) publicly rip the outgoing AND incoming #Redskins regimes, 2) get Trent released or traded to his destination of choice, 3) bank an insane contract at nearly 32, and 4) lobby for the Ring of Fame. Did I miss anything?

Yes, he also wants Trent to be crowned King of England.

My understanding is there have been suitors out there for Trent Williams. The trouble is—and I’ll be very clear about this—almost 100% his contract situation. Last year, word circulated that Williams asked the Redskins for quarterback money. And the Redskins found interest over the last few weeks in Williams, only to have suitors push away from the table when apprised of the seven-time Pro Bowl tackle’s financial demands.

TW needs to lower that contract demand.

What he needs is a new agent.

He does. I think his agent should focus more on the trade, rather than trying to win the PR battle.

I think his agent is deluded enough to think it will get the fans on his side...... such as with that "getting in the ring of honour" crap

I had to do a double take, he is literally insane if he thinks he can sit out for a year, force his way out on his own terms (trying to get out without us getting fair compensation in the process) and still come back and be in the Ring of Fame.

We hold the cards, he will either play for us or we will trade him for fair compensation.

I can't help thinking he might be trying to get us to pay part of his salary wherever he goes, so we can get rid. I kind of parting shot to kick us where it hurts?

Trent needs to stop being a baby bitch and show up or sit out. If they can't move him.

I'm tired of that bs

"They're not being stubborn.” Redskins want comparable value for Trent Williams but source tells me it could be a pair of picks, pick and a player or picks for 2020 and 2021.

or just making enough noise to have RR say fuck it, lets just move him and not let the past linger.

Seemed to work for Dunbar ...

I like how they are sticking to their guns but at some point they need to swallow some pride and move him UNLESS they believe he will eventually show up

I say unless we get a good offer, 2nd or higher, which doesn’t look like it will happen, wait until after the draft. You KNOW there will be a couple teams who miss on getting an OT they want and need a veteran guy. Even if we get future picks, getting higher picks next year is a better option than getting crap this year in my opinion.
