Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I waited until now to vote. I hit yes I do approve of the trade. We got a fair comparison in QB play to Cousins without having the break the bank. Signing Cousins to a mega contract would have been a huge mistake in my opinion. I do not think Cousins is worth 28-31mil/yr. Not even close.

Second, we know how much Cousins and his agent offered to play per year for the Skins in 2015: $19.5 mil. Allen and Snyder turned it down. That convoluted mess you imagine contract negotiations between the Skins FO and Cousins to be.... where the onus is on Cousins... pure fantasy. Here's an account of the negotiations in preseason 2017. LINK Seems to jibe with what else I've read, would love MTK, Scheed, others weigh on this story. TL-DR: Sure looks to me like the SKins FO lowballed Kirk again. Quote:
Lmao, Cousins took the high road, unlike Allen if you agree with the link I posted. Cousins should be complimented for that. Again, when did Cousins lie? A player can want to be on a team while not wanting to play for less than market value. |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
It's water under the bridge at this point. I was listening to 106.7 yesterday and Smith said that "he's jacked to be here." To me that was very refreshing to hear. We finally have a guy who wants to play here.

Re: Redskins Trade for Alex Smith
I’m so exhausted by this blame game people want to play. Shit didn’t work out, both sides have to share some blame. Time to move on. Smith is our QB.

On to Smith, was Scot with the niners when he was drafted? I thought Scot was the one that selected him right?

http://cdn.stationcaster.com/station...1518451131.mp3 Long story short: -Negatives: less good of a pocket passer than Kirk, tends to escape the pocket early... but does so trying to take shots down the field. Also less effective than Kirk in the medium range passing game. -Positives: very effective in the short AND long passing game. Very accurate down the field. Likes to take shots on 50/50 balls. Better athlete than Kirk. And most of all: DOESN'T THROW PICKS! He had 5 picks all year, none of them in the redzone. Cooley broke them all down: 1 tipped ball, 2 do or die throws that he forced (on 4th down and late in a game when it was their last chance) and 2 bad throws. If we can adjust our offense to Alex's strengths, we'll be juuust fine!

I have no problem with Bruce starting the negotiations at that spot. If Cousins wanted to be a Redskin he would have countered. He never countered. Airing that out in the media, with the statement that Bruce made, was probably tasteless. But approaching negotiations that way is exactly what I want my executive to do. And if the player doesn't even bother to counter? Definitely don't think he's the leader for me long term. Cousins just wanted out. Chris Thompson said it - he sent mixed messages. Is that who you want leading your team? Mixed messages from your captain? Onward. He wasn't the guy for us. We've got to accept that he didn't want it, no matter what Allen did.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
Don't look now, but I'm supporting Bruce Allen. I think he was right all along. And I think he's right in acquiring Smith. Gruden's offensive scheme is going to make that pickup look pretty good.

here it is Statistical projection? 2017 was by far Smith’s best season statistically, ending the season as the NFL’s leader in quarterback rating (104.7). Over his entire career in K.C., Smith averaged 3,707 yards, 65.1% completion percentage, 21 touchdowns, and just 7 interceptions. All stats based on a per 16 game average. During Kirk Cousins’s three years as the bonafide starter in Washington he averaged 4,392 yards, 67% completion percentage, 27 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Cousins also averaged 50 more attempts per season than Smith, which is due mostly in part to the playcalling differences between K.C. and Washington. Should Smith average the same number of attempts his stats would look something like 4,055 yds, 23 TDs, and 8 INTs. Compare that to his most recent season in KC of 4,042 yds, 67.5%, 26 TDs, and 5 INTs and Smith may be in line to shatter his personal bests. Prediction: 4,300 yards, 65%, 28 TDs, and 8 INTs

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I think if we can pick up a dynamic WR, either in FA or Draft, we will have a good to great offense.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I still want Jarvis Landry, he can fill that Pierre Garcon role that we missed so badly this year
