Re: Redskins sign DE Stephen Bowen

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Funny, this might be the first time in a while we could look back and say we caught this guy before he wanted his big payday. I'm done with Jenkins and 30+ yr old crowd on the down side of their careers. It's about time we caught some young talent rising.

Oh, you mean like Albert Haynesworth? ...no wait

Donovan McNabb?...no wait

Jeremiah Trotter?...no wait

Adam Archuletta? ...no wait

Dana Stubblefield?... no wait

Antwaan Randle El?...no wait

Brandon Lloyd? ....no wait

I'm sure I can add quite a few more of "proven" guys we brought in here and paid rewarding for and got squat.

Re: Redskins sign DE Stephen Bowen

For what it's worth, Bowen is trending on Twitter. Plenty of analyst are saying the Skins stole this guy away from the Cowboys and this wasn't a part of their plan. Interesting.

So we have two starting DL that are familiar with the offenses in the East. I like, I like.

I admit I didn't know much about this guy when I saw the headline, but the more I'm reading he sounds like an under the radar type of move that could pay off big. Sounds like Dallas really wanted him back and he was ready to take over a bigger role this year. He's on the right side of 30 and I don't see where the contract is anything too crazy at all.

I'm just curious to know what does this mean for Carriker. Honestly to me, Cofield is not a nose tackle. I would put Cofield and Bowen at DEs, but does this mean that Carriker is no longer a starter?

We're upgrading the defense nicely.
You should probably explain yourself.

The best NT on our roster is still Anthony Bryant. I didn't think there was a better guy out there to begin with, and I think Cofield can find a place here, but I think he's going to have to move around the defensive front to have matchups he can win.

Which can't really happen if Bowen, and Carriker are playing 70% of snaps in standard downs.

I think there's a lot more young talent on this defensive line than there was at 7 AM on Tuesday. I just am not seeing how it all come together as a good DL.
