Re: Nike Pro Combat Uniforms NFL 2012
I actually like the concept pictures that Buster posted, although I am still stuck on having the white jerseys and the burgundy pants. I like the longer sleeves (under the jersey) with the stripes, and the "retro" striped socks.
Some of the other concept photos were just way too out there. Such as the black helmets with the over-sized Indian head....not a fan! I don't mind NIKE going with the combat unis (if it does happen) as long as they keep some tradition with the colors and the styles (again such as what is in these photos) and not get ridiculous.

Of course, again, I think only way NIKE makes huge changes to the uniforms, colors and otherwise, is if the franchises agree to them and sign off on the changes. So, I wouldn't expect any ridiculous changes to the Redskins uniforms in 2012.

Nike used those on Oregon State's PC uniforms and it's a genius idea actually. It eliminated the effects of jersey tailoring and fitting issues that messes up the stripes or completely eliminates them on some players. It has gotten to the point where Brett Favre was the only active player with proper sleeve stripes. Linemen espacially ruin the jerseys around the sleeves. Look how great Favre's sleeve stripes look. Now look at his teammates: No one hacks up a jersey worse than Osi Umenyiora: Speaking of the Giants, Reebok botched theirs as badly as the Colts: Beaver sleeves:

Re: Nike Pro Combat Uniforms NFL 2012
Yes, I am NOT a fan of the "wife beater" jersey look. I think those Giants jerseys are horrible looking, look grossly too small for the players, and just looks very unprofessional.
I think every player on every team should look uniform with the other players. That is one reason why I would be in favor of a uniform overhaul. But most definitely, I would love to see the striped sleeves and striped long socks back. I have to admit. The gold pants and burgundy jerseys are starting to grow on me, but I don't think they should wear the gold pants with white jerseys.

Re: Nike Pro Combat Uniforms NFL 2012
I really like the concepts for the Skins that Buster posted earlier today, but my only questions with having the stripes on the under shirt instead of the actual jersey itself is can they really force every player to wear the under shirt?
I would think that there are players that wouldn't want to wear that kind of form fitting shirt if they're not used to it. I guess they could wear a baggier version, almost like a normal t-shirt, but I think that would probably look weird, and again, can you force them to wear it?

Osi and other guys modify their jerseys like that so lineman don't have anything to grab on to.

Re: Nike Pro Combat Uniforms NFL 2012
Buster stikes me as the type of guy that will only have missionary sex with his wife because he is afraid to try anything new.
I am not for all of those crazy revamps of the uniform but I do like subtle improvements. I like most of the newer NFL uniforms over the throwbacks because they look a little more modern. I am sorry but the old 2 colors with basic stripe design is way too bland. The cut off sleeves are more for function than for look (less to hold on to). Because of the more functional sleeves the half stripes make more sense. As far as pant stripes are concerned I rather like the thick, pointed, half stripes over the long and skinny, tripple, stripes. It gives the pants more color. |
