Vick kills an animal and goes to jail and awaits reinstatement. Pacman has people shot ...with a gun....in order to kill....and he gets reinstated and people are fine with him playing. Whether with their team or someone elses. I think I would rather take back the man who hurt the animal over trying to take another human beings life but those are my values.

In any case if we are going to say Vick is a monster and can't change then we might as well not let any of the other prisoners go either. I mean who wants a pediphile on the streets or a murderer, or a theif, or perhaps a rapist. If we are not going to give people a second chance then we better start building more prisons in everyones back yard to house everyone.

If we as a society are not willing to make sure he gets the counceling and perhaps be a spokesman or speak about what he did wrong in order to help stop this very act from accuring again and humbling him then where do you think he's going to go right back to in order to make money again?

Now I'm the last anyone would want to call a bible thumper but for those of you who hold high morals....

To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me” (Acts 26:18).

and

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13).

again I'm the last who should be called a bible thumper for I hardly go to church at all unless dragged by family but I do believe we as a society should be finding other ways to punish evil besides simply putting people in prison and not teaching them society norms, values and getting them counceling for their actions. I agree there is a % of the population that will not or can not be changed but to simply say "yea he may have learned a lesson but forget about giving him a chance" is obserd. If all busineses looked at Vick this way then how is he going to support himself or his family? I guess we should be saying thats his problem, he should have thought about it ahead of time?

I say reinstate him. Make him give a portion of his money to animal rights organizations, and force him to do commercials to humble him. Keep him on a tight leash as they did Pacman and Vicks own actions will speak louder then words. If he volunteered his services to an animal rights organization then perhaps some would change their way of thinking about him.
Vick played high school ball about 20 miles from where I live and I still don't know how I feel about him. The house he owned where he had the dogs is not far from here either and when a contractor bought the house and put it up for auction they would show the cages and houses where the dogs were kept. It was disgusting. I have never fought dogs but I have done some things that I'm not proud of and by the grace of God have changed the way I live my life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post SBXVII. Thank you.

You know what bud? Vick is a great athlete, but a crappy QB. Matt Ryan actually can take the Falcons places as he can pass, something Vick wasn't too good at. If you can't pass in the NFL you are useless. THe only college option QB that ever came close to winning the SB was Donovan and I think you can almost safely say he is never going back to the big dance. Also, Donovan could thread the needle when he was at Syracuse, where Vick was in a crappy conference at the time he was at Va Tech, which also had one hell of a defense!!!

I thought that I read somewhere that PETA actually supported Vick's return to the NFL. Has anyone else seen this?

Not necessarily, unless he passes a Psych test first.

Its funny that people really think PETA should even have a say in his reinstatement..
Society is really screwed up, when we place more value on an animals life than a human being. This country has millions of crimes everyday, millions of criminals getting released for more serious crimes, and no one says a word, they do thier time and go back to either be productive in society or screw up again...Good luck Michael Vick, hope you get a fair shot

Re: NFL Rumor Central: Does Vick have a future in Frisco?

Vick did a bad thing and got caught. I'm sure other players in the NFL do worse but haven't been caught. All of us have done things that are wrong and some of us have done things worse than dog fighting. I personally think what he did takes a twisted mind. But whether or not he should be able to contribute to society again. Yes he should. He served his time.

I think the question should be at what standard do we hold the NFL. I look at it as a rare privalige to play football and be paid millions. We as a society allow these athletes to live a dream life and root for them as they live it.

I don't think Vick is a danger to his fellow man. I do not compare him to Ted Bundy or that type. But to allow him the privalige to return to the NFL, to be a role model to our young children. I don't like it.

I don't care what Vick does with his life. I don't wish anything bad to happen to him. I hold him to no standard.

But is there a standard for the NFL? Should there be?

I agree 100%. Once Mike pays his debt to society he should be free to earn a living. What he did was wrong but that's why he went to jail. The man did his time now let him get back to being a productive citizen. For him, at this point in his life, that's being a pro football player.

If PETA needs something to do, they can check into my neighbor. He has an extremely dirty fish tank they may want to inspect. I just hope he doesn't lose his job at the pet store!!

HAIL!!

PETA lost all credibility when they asked Ben and Jerry's, one of the more "green" companies, to use human milk for their ice cream.

Not exactly. Sarah Palin continues to be criticized for shooting wolves from helicopters. Difference with dog fighting - drugs, crime, etc.

Once again, I don't justify Vick, nor do I think he's a good person whatsoever. I'm just sick and tired of people acting like this is the worst thing an NFL player has done (even though his career was ruined and went to jail for a year). Oh and in case someone starts accusing me of being insensitive, I'm a dog owner.

Please people, there are rapist, child molesters, murderers, that b/c they have money are able to get away with their crime, continue with their lives as if nothing happened. Ok, maybe Goodell should ban Vick for another year. But then again, he gave Pacman Jones a chance, so if Jones got a chance, then Vick should.
Agree. No one loves a dog more than me, I've had them all my life, I volunteer for a local animal shelter, I was livid with Vick. But again I have to agree - he's paid his debt, it's time to move on. And if PETA truly had a brain, they'd use this crime to further expose dog fighting and put forth systems to combat it. Instead they just yell and scream which they will certainly do on the doorstep of whatever team would sign him.

Re: NFL Rumor Central: Does Vick have a future in Frisco?

BUCS DON’T WANT VICK
Posted by Mike Florio on February 14, 2009, 11:56 a.m.

The Falcons have placed a quarterback familiar with the term “cell block” onto the trading block. And one team already has said that it’s not interested in acquiring him.

According to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, count out the Buccaneers.

“No, I don’t see that in our future,” G.M. Mark Dominik told Cummings.

Our guess is that most teams will feel the same way, especially in the unlikely event that Vick is reinstated for all or part of the 2009 season.

Vick’s return, whenever (if ever) if happens, will draw heavy criticism from the team that acquires him. And with the economic downturn making more franchises than ever fret about their ability to consistenly sell all of the tickets in the stadium, the presence of a player like Vick could be the difference between keeping the balance sheet in the black — and having home games blacked out.
