In capitalism, companies always undercut each other to corner a market. But when they do that, rivals find ways to innovate, make products better... but people stay in business. Those that do not bring anything new to the table (or have terrible business plans) inevitably fail. But in the retail convenience market, Wal-Mart isn't innovating any new product... they cut out the middle supplier and they're re-selling from direct sources. They can afford to keep their prices way lower than any of the mom and pop's, as long as it takes to eliminate the competition because they are Wal-Mart. Quote:
Wal-Mart is basically telling the world that the only way to "adapt" and stay successful in their industry is to become big business. Is that your idea of acceptable adapting? What's wrong with remaining a small business owner? And don't tell me small business owners can remain successful by adapting the Wal-Mart business plan- mom and pop's do not have the luxury of slashing prices to near retail for an indefinite amount of time until competition is erased. And don't get it twisted, Wal-Mart isn't where they are at b/c they worked harder than other people. You can use the argument that they are more successful b/c of their business plan, but do not use false claims that they somehow put in more hours than everyone else. I'm willing to ante up major bucks that Mom and Pop's work just as hard, if not harder to stay in business nowadays. For the last time, please read how Wal-Mart got to where it is now... then you'll stop trying to use these arguments painting Wal-Mart as the epitome of the American dream and everyone who hates it as lazy, welfare recipients. bad people manipulate the system to benifit themselves. Your example is on an individual scale, where the guy lived off unemployment. Just think about if a company(say walmart) did something like this to a different program or program(say wellfare medicare and other programs) on a larger scale where they pay their employees low enough wages that they can apply for these programs. We are basically paying taxes for walmart to pay their employees less so the gov't will be forced to provide medical insurance food stamps and other stuff so they can survive. Like you said we are giving a free ride to some cheap f's in walmart. There will always be lazy people and people who try to manipulate the system, but no one manipulates the system like that top 1%. Why do you think so many rich people have accountants? o and to the other guy sure documentaries aren't always all facts, that's why they provide places you can go to check their information. You'd be surprised that ur fox news might not be as accurate as some of the documentaries. You always have to take into account the spin/bias so look past that and look at the facts.

Now, all their factories are overseas in sweatshops paying ppl pennies. o the american dream...its like slavery but legal cuz its not in the US and its taking jobs away from americans cuz they'd be getting paid more

Re: F... Wal-Mart
well, you can't stop globalization. australia tried it and it almost completely destroyed their economy (the cheapest pairs of jeans cost $40-60 USD etc). people just couldn't afford as much as they used to be able to buy, so they had to backtrack completely in that area.

its hard to rely on people to make the world a better place and not manipulate to make an insane amt of money that you'll never be able to spend in a lifetime so your grandchildren will inherit billions and never have to work a day in their life.
