Was it really that the Giants caved or that MV just decided to run more? This game reminds me of our Dallas game (Brunell to Moss twice game) except this game was early and everyone was still up to see the ending.

My 100th post (obviously not significant for anyone but me!) was trying to console a giants fan. Another reason to hate the Gmen.

Shanahan liked him a lot last year (almost as much as Bradford) and this was when Locker would have been all but guaranteed to be the top pick in the draft.

Mallet to me seems like a safer pick and reminds me a lot of Matt Schuab which given Kyle Shanahan's experience in Houston can only be a good thing. However that lack of mobility in an offense where bootlegs are a staple kind of worries me. My other concern is that with Luck all but certain to stay another year that he could get picked before we go on the clock. It's not that I'm dead set on having Mallet but I would like to have options. Either way I'm impressed. He did a good job of continuing his development as a passer

Newton is my least favorite as he comes from a spread option offense. I've personally described him as Tim Tebow with a smooth delivery. He also doesn't seem to have the best head on his shoulders. The guy was kicked out of Florida for steeling laptops and the only thing I know about his support structure is he has a father that put his sons eligibility and college education on the line by asking schools for money. I mean if thats the father then what does the rest of his support group look like? Basically he's the last person I want to give millions of dollars to.

On top of that he runs to much for my liking. His passing numbers are efficent but when you rely on your legs to the tune of a 1,000 yards rushing I'm inclined to doubt how well you can throw the ball at the next level.

My only real stake in Newton is having him as a buffer that helps insure the Skins get to pick between Mallet and Locker.

Luck is a pipe dream whenever he comes out. The best we can hope for as it relates to Luck is that he ends up in the AFC because come playoff time he's one of the last QB's I want to see.
Good points, but lets not forget that Newton was the nations number one rated passer. He also threw for 29 touchdowns. Doing that against the competition he faced week in and week out is quite impressive.

Goodcall, I forgot the meltdown started with about 7 minutes left. And for some reason players forgetting the game is 60 minutes is a recurring theme over the years, I remember a certain Cowboys team playing a dominating game for 55 minutes back in 2005, and then two Santana Moss bombs later they lost the game, and that game turned into a catalyst for our season lol. Sucks for you guys but as Redskins fans we know all about historic days against the Redskins in recent seasons.

He really looks unstoppable, I look forward to the nat'l championship game. If he has a big game his stock may rise like V. Young when they beat USC. At the same time, I'm sure some teams will remember the V. Young hype & proceed w/caution.

Newton has the form & touch of an nfl passer, much more so than Young did in college. If he didn't have the personal issues, I think at this point he would be in the discussion for best player in the draft.

Frustrating stat of the day: Skins have scored at least 24 points five times this year...and are 0-5 in those games.

2009: 4 times, 2-2 record; 2008: 5 times, 4-1 record

Just curious -- if Haslett is fired, who do you want to see replace him?

Todd Bowles. I would give him a chance.

Re: Week 15: Redskins vs Cowboys Gameday thread

Having scored touchdowns on 3 consecutive possessions in the 2nd half to tie the score, the Redskins got the ball back from the Cowboys at their own 4 yardline with 4:46 to play. The Redskins had ALL the momentum

They also had the QB who "knew the two-minute offense" well and who had "adequate cardio-vascular conditioning". [Remember, that was why he went into the Detroit game with less than spectacular results about 6 weeks ago.] They needed to drive the field for a score to win.

Six plays later - after sacks - the Skins had to punt from their 8 yardline (net movement = 4 yards) and the Cowboys got the ball on their own 48 yardline with 3:11 to play. [Was anyone confident that the defense would keep Dallas out of field goal range at that point? I certainly was not.]

After the field goal put Dallas up by 3 points, the Redskins got the ball back at their 20 with 50 seconds to play - - but with no timeouts because those were correctly used on defense to preserve time on the clock.

The Skins needed about 50 yards to have a fair shot at a field goal to tie the game. Let's just say it didn't happen.

When the game came down to what Al McGuire always called "winning time" - - final 5 minutes and the score is tied - - the offense sputtered and the defense gave up enough yards to give up a score.

The game was close; the game was exciting to watch. But in the end, this was the same result we have seen from the Redskins for the past couple of years. Key offensive drives don't go anywhere; key defensive stops are rarely made.

The only difference between yesterday's final five minutes and the final five minutes of a close game coached by Jim Zorn last year was that Zorn had a special consultant calling the offensive plays from up in the pressbox and Mike Shanahan did not.

If Haslett were to be fired Wade Phillips would be a really good option to run our Defense.

Todd Bowles huh? That wouldn't be yet another emotional reach back to a bygone era for nothing other than nostalgia's sake would it?

Oh really? Also there's Jim Mora Jr. if you don't like Bowles.

Re: Week 15: Redskins vs Cowboys Gameday thread

Okay, pretty nice resume. But the fact that he was a Redskin under Joe Gibbs during the glory years has nothing to do with wanting him to coach here?

I'm just sick of hearing the name of every former Redskin who happens to be coaching somewhere as a candidate to come here, -- as if coming back would somehow re-create the magic of the 1980's in Washington. It's like writing checks on a bank account that has long since closed.

No that has nothing to do with it, he has been mentioned as a darkhorse candidate as a HC. His resume speaks for itself.
