Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

If I didn't watch Fred Davis play for four years, I would be confused like all of you guys. He's 6'4, 245... he caught everything for SC this season with a bunch of frosh wideouts. He blocks like nobody's business.

I was thinking the Seahawks would have grabbed him in the first instead of the Purdue guy... but Zorn knew what was up.

Trust me, they can use both BFD and Cooley in this offense. We're helping Cambell out immediately with this pick. Best player available.

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

1. Fred Davis, Southern California
Height: 6-3 Weight: 255
College stats: 26 starts, 117 receptions, 13 TDs
Vital numbers: 4.65 40-yard dash

Davis was the premiere tight end during the season, and looked like a complete player at the Senior Bowl. A former wide receiver who lived in the weight room until he was able to get 33 reps on the bench press test. His 40-yard times disappointed clubs, who expected a high 4.5 from him. Some teams believe he really is a 4.7-type athlete and that scares teams when it comes to presenting a vertical threat down the field, which has become a primary condition for a great draft grade. His game tapes indicate he can present a deep threat. Davis is a very solid route runner with fine body control near the sideline or reaching back for a bad pass over the middle. Davis should perform in pro football like L.J. Smith or Chris Cooley. Draft projection: Round 2.

I don't know what the issues are, just heard rumors there were some. Still wouldn't be surprised or upset if he's our next pick. But man who knows now

But so is Chris Cooley. I don't get this pick at all.

What's next? A punter?

If we don't go defense with #51, then I have lost all faith in Snyder/Cerrato/Zorn.

Thats the point they have QB's not sure how many but none are any good. Garcia is old as dirt, Simms is on a short leash and cant stay healthy to say the least. They need a QB they can build the team around or not as far as I'm concerned.

I think most thought they where looking to pick the #1 wide out including myself...but probably not a bad pickup in the long term.

sounds good, red zone threat, mauler for portis to run behind. and go help the defense covering our two te sets in the red zone

I hope Davis will be converted to FB. I'd much rather have him back there then Sellers.
