Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Peter King pretty much sums it up:
# SI_PeterKing AJ Smith won the pissing contest. But in the larger picture, it's a loss for him and his team. less than 20 seconds ago via TweetDeck The San Diego Chargers now--likely--have chosen a 3d-round 2012 compensatory pick for VJax instead of a 2d-rd pick in '11. Nonsensical. 2 minutes ago via TweetDeck |

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
A. J. Smith is officially the dumbest GM in the league. At the very BEST,he will get a 3rd round compensatory pick in the 3rd round. (that's the 3rd round picks After all the teams have picked in the 3rd round...very low..almost 4th rounder)
and I've heard, that's not even a guarentee because it depends on the contract offered to VJ when he walks in the offseason. and that's if he even gets anything at all with the lockout and new CBA rules after negotiations. The only thing to keep him from looking REALLY stupid,is to meet VJ's contract demands, which looks like won't happen with A.J. Smith's ego... But from Shefter,ESPN and NFL Network, there were MULTIPLE teams with a contract ready and compensation. The Vikings already had a 2nd rounder and an additional Pick that A.J. has turned down...Which is already more than what they will get in return for losing VJ. PLUS...they had control of where they would send him...NFC and out of division... When VJ walks next season, not only could the Chargers not get ANYTHING in return for him or a comp 3rd at best...but he could choose to sign with Denver,Oakland or K.C. and be in their division or with a different AFC team. Not to mention,i'm hearing that VJ can sit out the remainder 2010 season if he chooses too.... Not play at all....! lol A.J. ego cost his team Huge.... Plus, any decent draft picks would be good to have from what I'm hearing... A very deep WR class... All in all... A.J. is an idiot! lol VJ's stock just dropped now... With his suspension and the season underway...if he does change his mind by week 6 and the trade deadline...A.J. won't get close to what he was offered today. Again, his ego screwed himself and the team's future. Might get him fired too...

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Can't believe AJ would rather walk away with nothing instead of acquiring a second round pick. One that looks like it's going to be an early one should the Vikings continue on their current course.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
VJax definitely showing frustration
said obviously the Chargers wanted to get fair compensation for him, didn't understand why they thought he was only worth tender though

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
well there is still a chance that they get something for him.. trade deadline isn't over... but they'll certainly get lower compensation unless someone's big guy goes down

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
I've gone back and forth on this, the most anyone should of offered was a 2nd rd they get a 3rd based on if VJ signs with another team next yr and the size of his contract I beleive.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
Yeah, it's quite clear Smith wants to keep Jackson to San Diego one way or the other, but also lower his market value at the same time. The article says that he wanted the Vikes to sign VJax to a 1-year six million dollar contract. Sheesh.

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
by trade deadline, Minnesota may very well have Sidney Rice back, they will certainly know how long he will be gone. Any leverage that SD had they lost. Unless VJ does hold out the whole season, and then we get to do this whole thing over again since he won't have accrued a league year...

I find it funny that so many people on this thread are on VJ's side just because they want him to be a Redskins. Typically, whenever there is a story such as this (player vs. team) 9 times out of 10 the fans side with the team (i.e. Revis, up to a certain degree Haynesworth, pretty much any player that holds out). I know that every holdout is different, I just always see fans siding with the team (i.e. the guy should just show up; the player needs to honors his contract; etc., etc.).

Re: V. Jackson "Prepared to Sit out season"
wow, that GM is a dumbass.
I hope he gets fired for costing his team a 2nd round draft pick in what is believed to be a very deep draft. what an idiot. I know he drafts good, but getting a 2nd round plus a 3rd rounder for VJax should have been a reflex decision. Plain stupid....... |

Oh, and yes, I am one of the dumbasses that wanted to see VJ wearing the burgandy and gold.
I think it would have looked good on him. |
