These days if you're lucky you get a second round QB thats on par with Chad Henne. Basically the best QB's come from either the first round or random spots late in the draft and you don't bank on those guys because if you're dense enough to do that you end up with Troy Smith as your franchise QB

At the very least scouts are good at identifying the best QB prospects year in and year out which is usually why they're all gone by the time the second round rolls around. If we're going to draft a real QB of the future we're going to do it right and take one in the first round.
Good post

I don't like trading away picks any more than the next guy, but I don't fault the idea of bringing in a veteran, pro bowl-type QB who a solid majority figured could play for a good three more seasons.

It's not written in stone that you rebuild with unproven rookies at all 22 positions.

Still, our team is up the sh*t creek because and our coach gambled two picks on a QB that has gotten benched twice this season.

O line looked good the second half. That's your difference, always is with the skins. If they play like that next year with Trent Williams being a year older, draft another stud lineman in the early rounds and you can stick Danny Wuerful back there and win.

But was it a gamble worth taking? That's the question. Only now, with the benefit of hindsight do we know the answer.

If McNabb lights it up, plays in Hawaii for a year or two, and guides an infusion of young guys through the rebuilding process on the way to a playoff appearance here and there, the two draft picks you expended don't look so bad. Hell, if he turns in a performance a knotch or two below that it would have been worth the price.

Needless to say, McNabb didn't have anything close to that left in the tank, and Shanahan overestimated him, like many, many others.

I don't like the end result by any means but I'm not going to put Shanahan in front of the firing squad for it either.

Great, glad you think it was worth the gamble. When MS brought McNabb, my first thoughts were, great he wants to win right away, I'm sure some people thought the same way.

While I'm not 100% sold on Colt, I'm about 99.9% He finished with a 132 QB rating today. He's performing really well under the circumstances. He's only going to get better once he's complimented with some playmakers. Hillis and Cribbs is a very good start though.

Horrid short and intermediate game, mobility on the decline, inflated stats thanks to DeSean Jackson, the signs were there. Hell, my optimism for him was only because I thought we were going to have the ZBS working right away, not because he was a Brady. Tripp saw it coming.

Listening to the post game interviews...Moss, Cooley, Fletcher, etc
It does not sound like a locker room.......divided.

Eagles were trying to move DM5 for a top 15 pick and a 3rd so...we stole him?
