Re: Official Week 5 Power Rankings Thread
I give up on these rankings and analyst, Collin Cowherd and Sean Salisbury ESPN Analyst talking about how the Cowboys could be the best team in the NFC not only the NFC East the damn NFC. They talked about how the Cowboys dominated us, but the Broncos are great and no mention that we dominated them but lost and could be the best in the NFC. It is all about the Giants, Cowboys, and Eagles. I know we talk about it week after week, but this shit just pisses me off that they make the kind of money they do to smoke crack and evaluate teams and try to make the callers sound like fools for saying anything different then their ignorance.

When we were in this situation last year didn't we hear how good teams win these games and bad teams loose these games. Good teams do not loose when they are up by 13 with 4 minutes, but they are the cream of the NFC like I stated in my previous post. I have to LOL at that one also. It is funny how depending on the team your talking about how they justify a loss and a win so differently. Do they think people are idiots and can't figure out that they are talking out their ars!! |

No mention at all for the Skins. They were loving the Dallas D, loving their offense, but no mention that the Skins are one spot behind Dallas in offense at #8 and 5 spots AHEAD of them defensively at #5 compared to Dallas at #10. The mediots really make me laugh though. After the first 2 weeks they were loving Dallas, once we beat them they were shot back down again, now they're loving them again. I mean c'mon, I understand a lot changes week to week, but some people are so hot and cold with teams it's ridiculous. Dallas is the trendy "best team" this week, next week it will be someone else. *YAWN* |

If we beat Kansas City handily, we can only GUESS who the "flavor of the week" might be...

It was a marketing thing in the 70's propelled by their enormously popular cheerleaders. I will look for a more definitive answer. I think the label 'America's Team' is stupid though. The NFL is so popular because each City/region has someone to cheer for or Hate. The Cowboys may be popular, but 'America's Team' is just something to sell t-shirts. I am so uninterested in the 'serious' power rankings. Really, who cares! That's why we have playoffs! This ain't college! |

Re: Official Week 5 Power Rankings Thread
why use power rankings when you can have NFL ratings
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/nfl05.htm I like this better as they look at strength of schedule which they determined that we had the 4th hardest schedule thus far, Chicago is the only NFC team with a harder schedule so far.... well they did play us. NUMBER 5!!!!!!!!! |

Re: Official Week 5 Power Rankings Thread
the above system is found like this.
The SCHEDULE ratings represent the average schedule difficulty faced by each team in the games that it's played so far. The schedule difficulty of a given game takes into account the rating of the opponent and the location of the game. To make predictions for upcoming games, simply compare the RATINGS of the teams in question and allow an ADDITIONAL 3 points for the home team. Thus, for example, a HOME team with a rating of 27 would be favored by 5 points over a VISITING team having a rating of 25. Or a VISITING team with a rating of 24 would be favored by 7 points over a HOME team having a rating of 14. NOTE: Use whatever home advantage is listed in the output below. In the example just above, a home edge of 3 was shown for illustrative purposes. The home edge will vary during the season. The numbers to the right of a team's schedule strength are its rank of schedule - (in parentheses) - and its record versus teams in these rating's CURRENT top 10 and CURRENT top 16 respectively. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In ELO CHESS, only winning and losing matters; the score margin is of no consequence, which makes it very "politically correct". However it is less accurate in its predictions for upcoming games than is the PURE POINTS, in which the score margin is the only thing that matters. PURE POINTS is also known as PREDICTOR, BALLANTINE, RHEINGOLD, WHITE OWL and is the best single PREDICTOR of future games. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The overall RATING is a synthesis of the two diametrical opposites, ELO CHESS and PURE POINTS (PREDICTOR). NFL ratings will be updated after games of Sunday and again after the Monday night game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a predictor we are favored to win the KC game as they have 22"points" and we have 26 "points", the system adds 3 "points" to the home team which gives the skins a 1 point advantage, but the KC game is a tough home crowd and some might argue that they deserve more "points" |
