Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

Good and bad for Haskins. He is an NFL rookie and played with back ups. He also played against scrubs. Two Interceptions and no touchdowns, not great but not the end of the world. The two picks were typical rookie QB mistakes although his first ever NFL pick was a pick 6.
Haskins is a work in progress. No question. That is not bad, he is young and inexperienced.
But at some point this preseason if Haskins does not clearly demonstrate on the field and stat sheet that he has earned/won the the starting QB job over Keenum, it will be interesting to see what the FO and coaches do. Will we start Keenum because he is better prepared at this point and gives us the better chance to win? Or will Haskins be given the position regardless of the play on the field, because Haskins was drafted high, he is the future and he will sell tickets?

Under this scenario, I think they'd start Keenum. Redskins nation is excited about Haskins, but am I the only one who feels there was more hype for RGIII? Haskins is going to be very good, no doubt, he just needs more experience. I do like Gruden with qbs and offense. I wanna see Keenum get a fair shake.

I’d rather go 6-10 with Haskins than 8-8 with Colt or Case.

Maybe this fan base learned a lesson about over hyping a rookie QB ? Chat échaudé craint l'eau chaude, a cat that got burnt is scared of hot water.

Plus there's this sense that Haskins is not ready right now, that the coaches know and say it, that we didn't get for RG3.

RG3 wasn’t ready either, that’s why they designed an offense around what he could handle with the zone read and very easy one read passes off play action.

What has Keenum done to earn the job? Neither he nor Colt from what we have heard are really doing much in practice.

RGIII had a bigger college career than Haskins and a lot more experience. He was also a track star and very exciting. Sprinkle in the fact that he really wanted to be in DC, that's why the hype is real. Agree Haskins isn't ready now, but will be soon.

What has Colt or Haskins done to earn the job? McCoy can't stay healthy and has been a perennial backup his entire pro career. Keenum has far more experience and success and yes did take his team to the NFL title game in 2017. We know Haskins isn't ready and doesn't even have a lot of college starts despite all the talent. Keenum deserves a fair shake.

Oh definitely, but every body, coaches and FO included, was overhyping him from day 1 following the draft. With Haskins they're more precautious.

Well you give me the best 3rd down defense of all time and the best WR duo, along with a miracle play in the divisional round game and I could get there too. Keenum has been a perennial backup also. Don't forget if Sam Bradford doesnt hurt his shoulder week 1 vs the Saints, Keenum doesnt play that season

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

Taking your team to NFC title game is nothing to ignore! I like Case and hope he does well here!! Who’s to say with our injury history Haskins stays healthy.. He took several shots in Cleveland that he was fortunate not to be injured. Haskins has all the tools to be the man but it takes a little time ..I believe Case will be starter day one and Haskins will get his chance at some point to be the Number One .. but to throw him to the wolves in this town would not be wise.. I can see it now he throws 2 picks and a fumble sack in a regular season game and some would say he’s a bust😳.. remember we are hard on this team!!

Haskins has draft pick status, he's young and has elite talent. Therefore he should be named the starter. Gruden should just stop screwing around with this 3 person competition and give the guy who's the future the reps.

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

There is no need to rush Haskins, no need to ruin his confidence. Mark Rypien benefited from sitting on the bench. I would give Keenum a chance and if he doesn’t capitalize on it then put in Haskins. This is probably what will happen.

It did Mayfield not one bit of good sitting behind Taylor. The Cards are starting Murray. Josh Allen, Wentz and Darnold all played early as rookies. Why should Haskins be any different?
Because the last first round qb to sit for a year became MVP his second year?

If Haskins starts early it's because Gruden is trying to save his ass, not because Haskins is ready.
