But there's a positive side to losing Brown, and its not that he's a whiny chump or whatever. In this failed transaction we saw again the theme that has dominated our front office maneuvering this offseason: refusal to go above our maximum price for free agents, even if it means losing them to another team. Would anyone dispute that in the past we would have thrown some outragous 8 million dollar signing bonus at an injury plagued underachiever when other teams were offering much less? This time we didn't, just like we didn't with Smoot and Pierce, even though it hurt to see them leave. While no one knows exactly how this offseason will turn out in the long run, what is apparent to us right now is that the redskins have finally learned from their past mistakes. Looking forward to a smart draft and a promising season.
I agree, it's funny to see how quickly people's tunes change.

I too appreciate the restraint the front office is showing this offseason.

I'd be interested to see what our cap would look like if we committed to Pierce, Smoot and now Brown. Canuck, could you cook this up for us?

Look, we had a good D with out C. Brown, I think Smoot and Peirce leaving will hurt, but the attitude of the Defense is no matter who we lose we are going to be solid.

I am actually impressed by the skins. You know in years past any other team in the NFL wouldn't have had a chance to get Brown cause our offer would have blown them out the water, but we are sticking to our guns. It feels good to be picky!!!

Yeah no kidding. I can't see how it was like 80-20 on getting him and as soon as he signed with Denver everyone jumped off that bandwagon. Craziness I tell you. Some people need more persepective I think.

You know what, I think my mind is tainted on the issue by hearing about how Champ Bailey called Brown and disparaged the Skins on the phone.

I guess it makes me feel like perhaps Champ's influence had something to do with Brown's decision, and that makes me feel irritated at Brown.

Ah well, I was never sold on him unless we could get him signed to a contract in the neighborhood of 5 years / 12 million with a signing bonus less than 3 or 4 million.

Re: Brown opts to go to Denver

Brown was going to be a gamble either way - as an infrequent card player, I can state that gambles you make are a lot easier to justify than gambles someone else makes.

In his five professional seasons, Brown has missed an average of over six games a year. Part of our pitch to him was that he would not be overused because of our rotation. Part of Denver's pitch was that he would be their starter. I guess the allure of starting was more important.

Though I would have liked to see C Brown come for cheap, we gave him an offer, he didn't want it. No big deal. Denver promised him playtime and we didn't.

Yup, my opinion on the situation is kind of like, "Meh, oh well."

At the risk of starting some football conversation, any word on Dyson? I'm curious about that pickup, mainly because if the Skins are indeed interested, they must DEFINITELY see something we don't.

Re: Brown opts to go to Denver

I would have been excited about getting him, but now that he went to denver i do hope he is a bust for them. Whats wrong with that? Whats wrong with hoping a decision your team made was the right one no matter what the outcome? I cant see anyone saying, "Man, I hope that C. Brown takes Denver's defense up to the top in the NFL and they go to the super bowl." Not on this site.

:headbange that would be great but i don't think he's available, if he is that would sweet. may we nee to get creative in our trades and drafts. we've been throwing money at the problems and it doesn't work. i jonesing like the rest of you but this the right thing to do. the cap has surely changed the game. you play by it or you will pay for it. thank goodness for nfl channel.

Meh. I'm not thrilled but I'm not heart-broken. It would have been a nice novelty to have the number one, two and three picks from a single draft all on one team but what are ya gonna do.
