Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
I like the idea of trying out a lot of players at all positions. If they try out enough players, they may find one or two who can help the team to get better. I hope they run tryout players through Redskins Park as if they're on a conveyor belt because it could only help. We were 4-12 last season, folks. Four and Twelve! There is a lot of room for improvement and not much risk of getting worse.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
I think it's better to say it was filled with a bunch of bums. We dropped 10 of 'em off the bat, and now it's probably 50/50, but I'm hoping that the 50 that are bums get their butts in gear now.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
Not to mention competition - something we have been lacking. The way to find the diamonds in the rough, or those whose play may have been lacking in the past, is to try to stir up their competitive nature, and see if any shine through. If not, you have lost very little, but the chance of gaining one, two, or even three gems is worth the risk.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
I honestly don't know what sort of age decline Holliday has been in the last few seasons, but I think he's had one of the most overlooked, quiet, solid careers in recent memory. His name doesn't come up much when you talk about great defensive linemen in the NFL, but he's been one of the best DL of the decade.
I liken him to Darren Sharper, you know, before he got all that media attention last year.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
And to get a job, all he has to do is beat out Greg Peterson for the final DL roster spot. Somehow, I don't think he'll be deined.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
So why don't the skins just consider trading Haynesworth and Andre Carter to the saints for Jammal Brown?

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
Are people sold on these stupid speculations about Haynesworth that they think that any camp scrub or aging veteran is here to replace a dominant d-lineman like Haynesworth? My God, is not like we signed Haloti Ngata.
Haynesworth is not going to be traded period, the faster that people get this, the quicker we can stop posting these wishful trade scenarios. If Shanahan were truly in a rebuilding mode, then yes, a trade for 2011 picks would make sense, but he's not.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
Solves a need while creating a need, and we're getting killed on the value side of that trade since Carter and Haynesworth are both individually better players than Brown. However, if Brown was going to be the RT of the future, and Carter and Haynesworth weren't going to be here past 2010, I might do it anyway, and just be worse on D for a year.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
Who is next? Courtney Brown?
Can we stop signing DLineman who aren't going to make the team already... Have we cut Renaldo Wynn yet? (who never should have been on the roster over Dixon...) |

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday
Actually, I'm glad we're bringing in linemen that have 3-4 experience. I would have liked to see a 3-4 LB signed.
