but let me ask you, would you add him if only for mentoring / coaching purposes and being a bench warmer and getting under 20 carries this year?

Re: Shaun Alexander Looking to Tiptoe His Way Onto Redskins...Again?
I would not spend a 53 man roster spot on him for any reason, but to have him around the team (preseason contract or none) -- I probably wouldn't care either way. If Zorn thinks he can help, I'm sure he'll find a way to get him in here.

Ok, what do you guys think about goin after Jones of the Jets? may not be there long with the rook and Washington. led the AFC in rushing -i think-. CP needs someone to give him a breather who can be a breakaway threat IMO.

Certainly not a mind reader but i don't see CP handling getting less carries. They ran him to death last year and he still complained. I honestly think we have capable backups just they were used as effectively last year.

He will be 31 in august!!! Yes, he did lead the AFC in rushing (5th in the NFL), it's worth noting that only Tiki Barber, Curtis Martin, Walter Payton, and our beloved John Riggins did more than 1250 yards in a season at the age of 31 or older. Only John Riggins did it older than 31. So he will have nothing left in the tank, and we will pay a bunch of money for a back up. This is a complete waste...need to get younger. I would want Alexander as a mentor, not a player...Jones is only 1 year younger and a ton more expensive.

Why does everyone keep looking over the fence at everyone elses green grass when we have the greenest grass right here? There is a select few on here who already know that Marcus Mason is the future of this team and can out perform any of those washed up has beens. I predict league leading rusher this preseason again. His second yr in the same offense.....no different then JC....he will shine. Stop looking so far away. Look a little closer and smile.

I liked Mason last yr also. I thought for sure he was going to make it.

Re: Shaun Alexander Looking to Tiptoe His Way Onto Redskins...Again?
I'm not saying he will beat out Betts or Rock just saying he provides the same talent but younger so if the object is to get younger for Zorn then Mason would be nice to replace someone. However, being a betting man I bet we keep Portis, and Betts, then replace Rock with one of the shiftier guys who can KR/PR/and RB for a change of pace.
The problem is we can't put Mason on the practice squad since he was on an active roster last yr....right. So it's either do or die. He either out performs Betts or Rock or he's basically show casing his talents for other teams who might need a RB. |

Re: Shaun Alexander Looking to Tiptoe His Way Onto Redskins...Again?
Sooo, let me get this right. We have a player who was the league leading rusher in preseason, was coveted by 3 NFL teams, was looked at by a 4th prior to the draft in which the very team who originally signed him won the bid to bring him back to their team, all because he sucks?
Hmmm. The Skins talent scouts must really suck. As a matter of fact the HC must suck also considering he would even consider bringing back someone who obviously has no talent, can't find a whole to save his life, and was only the league leading rusher against second rate players. One would think Rock being so great would have done a better job then Mason against said second rate players but then why was Mason the league leading rusher. Wait......I forgot, statistics don't amount to anything. It's all about what they have done in the past, which is why we can't develope players, cause we don't even consider anyone who does not have a proven record. Sorry, my man crush came out again. what are the chances of us keeping Mason on the roster to make our own 3 headed monster?

Having said that, Portis is our #1. Who comes after is the question. Some say it's Betts no questions. Some say it should be Rock. All I'm saying is everyone is screaming about not having young talent through out the team being developed for the future and yet when someone is brought in at RB we hear the same thing all the time. Portis, Betts, Rock. We have no room for anyone else. That's nice but at some point with all three of them being with in a few yrs of each other, they will all be either let go or retired. Who will be trained/developed to take over for when that happens? As of right now we bring in RB's to simply keep our 1st,2nd,and 3rd stringer from getting injured in preseason. Or so some would lead you to believe. The team has finally woken up at WR. O-line is still an issue perhaps but the team did go out and pick up talent to compete even though age is still an issue. |
