Re: 2009 Season
Get rid of the dead weight through the coarse of a couple of years to recoup some money and not get burned with dead cap and release fees. Our guys are getting old in the D and O lines but they can still play. There is no doubt in my mind that most of them will be back since it would cost us to release them. I don't see all of them starting though. Draft their replacements
The players that don't cost anything or much to keep will be gone regardless to make room for cap space. We'll see a lof of players return that we wouldn't want on our roster anymore. All that I ask is that we do more to develope our own instead of blowing our wad in free agency. I like what we did last year as far as the draft and FA is concerned. If they can continue this and stop over paying people then I'd be happy. What Dallas needs to do. Tell Jerry Jones that he doesn't contribute enough to the team with his input. Keep TO and promote him to team spokesman. Let Tony Romo go. He throws too many interceptions. Actually keep him on the roster. It really doesn't make that much of a difference. Keep Wade Phillips, he's the best available. Last edited by Trample the Elderly; 01-11-2009 at 01:25 AM. |

Re: 2009 Season
I've had some more time to think, and have come up with the changes I would like to see made to our starting team in 2009.
I know some of these moves seem drastic, but Snyder gave Vinny/Zorn a two year window to fix this franchise. This is the 2nd year. Vinny is fighing for his job and is going to want to make some big moves. I expect us to be very active this year, like how the Jets were last year. Besides that, we had a very slow offseason last year. Historically, we have had alternated every year between having very slow and very busy offseasons. I fully expect us to break the bank landing several marquee Free Agents, like we did when Gibbs returned and we traded Champ for Portis, and acquired guys like Griffin, Springs, Washington, etc. We certainly will have the cap room by cutting a number of old vets. That being said, here is my proposed starting roster for the team in 2009: OFFENSE QB: Chris Simms* RB: Clinton Portis - Splits carries with Betts 70/30 WR: Santana Moss WR: Devin Thomas TE: Chris Cooley LT: Chris Samuels LG: Chad Rinehart C: Max Unger (3rd round pick, Oregon RG: Randy Thomas RT: Jason Smith (1st round pick, Baylor) DEFENSE LE: Demetric Evans DT: Anthony Montgomery - Rotates with Golston and Alexander DT: Albert Haynesworth (UFA, Tennessee Titans) RE: Andre Carter OLB: Clay Matthews (2nd round pick**, USC) MLB: London Fletcher OLB: Carlos Dansby (UFA, Arizona Cardinals) CB: Nnamdi Asomugha (UFA, Oakland Raiders) CB: DeAngelo Hall SS: Chris Horton FS: Laron Landry SPECIAL TEAMS K: Sam Swank (6th round pick, Wake Forest) P: Shane Lechler (UFA, Oakland Raiders) PK: Rock Cartwright PR: Justin Tryon ---------------------------------------------------- Noteable Players Cut/Traded Jason Campbell Jason Taylor Cornelius Griffin Shawn Springs Marcus Washington Carlos Rogers James Thrash - Replaced by Billy McMullen, UFA Fred Smoot - Replaced by Matteral Richardson, PS FORMER STARTERS RETAINED AS BACKUPS Casey Rabach - Primary Backup C (will be cut in 2010) Jon Jansen - Primary Backup RT (will be cut in 2010) Stephon Heyer - Primary Backup LT Rocky McIntosh - Primary Backup OLB COMMENTS *Jason Campbell Traded to Tennessee for Chris Simms, straight up. Jason Campbell is an ideal fit for Tennessee's offense. Chris Simms is an ideal fit for our offense. Its a good deal for both teams. Maybe we could get a low-round pick in addition to Simms for Campbell, but I don't think Vinny is that good of a negotiator. **2nd round pick acquired via trade for Carlos Rogers. Normally, I wouldnt like the move, but Asomugha is a clear upgrade over Carlos, and this move would garner us a draft pick.

Re: 2009 Season
You and me both. I mean I think Simms has a place in this league. But really? Trade Campbell straight up for him? Aside from the fact that I'm pretty sure Simms would be a free agent this offseason anyway. Why would you trade Campbell for Simms straight up? And then I love how he basically says "well it's not something I would do really but Vinny is so stupid he'd do it." Well if it's the changes you want, couldn't you have come up with something better than offering Campbell up in a trade for Simms?

Re: 2009 Season
Name one thing thats impossible for this team with over 21M in cap space created just by releasing 4 players?

Re: 2009 Season
I offered an explaination. Anyone that thinks Jason Campbell will succeed in the WCO needs to take their B&G glassess off. Vinnys comments made it very clear that he is not sold on JC as our starter in 2009. Tennessee is going to resign Kerry Collins after this year and Jason Campbell is a MUCH better fit for their offensive system than Chris Simms. In Tennessee, (once Collins retires) he would become the franchise QB we dreamed he would be when we drafted him.

Re: 2009 Season
Chris Simms? Really? That is ridiculous.
FYI....just because a guy is a FA doesn't mean the Skins "automatically" get him. Bottom line = improve both lines....that alone will get us to 10 wins. (If everything else stays constant) |

There may be a better answer out there besides Simms, but Jason Campbell is most certainly NOT the answer. (Another option would be signing Garcia as a FA, but I think he may retire) If we don't trade Campbell in this offseason, he'll walk as a free agent when his contract is up and we'll get nothing for him. Thats a fact. and I KNOW just because someone is a FA, it doesnt mean we can sign them, but by cutting the players we mentioned, we should be able to make offers to Haynesworth and Asomugha that they can't refuse. Unfortunately, I think haynesworth will probably resign with Tennessee - i'd put the odds of him hitting FA at only about 30%, but if he hits FA, we can and should overpay for him.

Re: 2009 Season
I don't think what he wants to do is Madden-esque, necessarily. Seems like every team we would deal with has incentive to do the deals he proposes.
But there's two really obvious things: theres no flexiblity in his plan. If Lechler and Asomugha resign with Oakland, there's no plan B. We just get worse. And that proposed starting lineup really sort of kinda sucks the big one. The receivers suck. The line sucks. The quarterback is a downgrade. The front seven gets a little bit better on defense, but I can't remember, didn't someone already try Asomugha and Hall at the corners? Didn't Hall get roasted over an open fire by AFC teams in that same scenario? Outside of that, it's change for the sake of change. I'll give him props for at least putting concrete ideas on paper with some thought, instead of taking abstract jabs at non issues.
