That's why I was joking,if you read about Parcells deal he only deals with the owner and even then he has final say, did'nt work in Dallas or with the Jets but did in New England and in Miami. |

Re: Bill Parcells has opt-out clause, could walk away from Dolphins
From Yahoo:
Parcells has a history of being on the move, and he has held three jobs in the past two years. He quit coaching after the 2006 season with Dallas and was a TV network analyst in 2007. He spent four years with the Cowboys, three with the Jets and four with the Patriots. So the man ain't scared of change.

Yes. Exactly. Pacellls or any serious GM professional will NEVER come to DC with the present arrangement. Nor will the Redskins consistently win with the present arrangement.

1) Just because Parcells has a financial incentive to opt out doesn't mean he will. At this stage in their careers, these guys have made enough money. After all, he's got a decent financial incentive to stay, too. 2) The clause was put into his contract clearly because he had a working relationship with Huizenga. He asked for the out clause in case he ended up with an owner he couldn't work for. So far, we have no evidence that will be the case. 3) You damn well know Cerrato isn't going anywhere. 4) Parcells is into rebuilding projects. The Patriots, the Jets, the Cowboys, and now the Dolphins. He likes to take teams from the basement and turn them around. The Redskins are not his cup of tea, there's already a foundation in place here. 5) The 'Skins don't have the immediate cap space for him to make the changes to transform this into a Parcells type team. He'd need to acquire a strong NT for the 3-4, a copious amount of linebackers because he likes big ones and none of ours are big, etcetera etcetera. This thread just serves to fuel rampant speculation started by examining one little out clause in his contract. There's no point in discussing it in the context of the Redskins if you know anything about Parcells' past.

He's been with the Dolphins one season, and based on what they accomplished this year it figures he'll want to see it through and get a chance to grab another ring.

(no I don't think anything will come of this either, but I don't know what else to do until we start rearranging the roster/staff)

No offense, but whether or not it's "worth" a discussion really isn't your call. If you don't think it is, feel free not to discuss it. A big chunk of this site is based on "what ifs" and speculation. Again, I personally never said I expect him to opt out of his contract, nor did I say I think we should or will obtain his services. I just said financially it would be a smart move. I agree that there's an overwhelming chance he won't end up here or anywhere else but Miami next year. But he could leave Miami if he wanted, and nothing is out of bounds with Danny. So I started a thread.

However I've got a right to my opinion, and I like to think the Warpath is a little better than the numerous boards out there that so often fan the flames of unfounded rumors. You're well within your right to start threads like this, I just happen to think I'm doing a board a service by coming along and giving my educated opinion as to why it's pointless to discuss. No biggie.

It certainly wasn't my intention to dumb down the site by posting a mindless thread. But for the record, did I post anything that was an "unfounded rumor?" I simply pointed out the fact that he had the opt-out clause, and maybe opened the door to entertain some speculation. Who we draft, who gets fired, who's a free agent, who will be offered the dreaded "vet min..." It's all part of this board, and all speculation, often times based on nothing but thin air. Anyway, I don't want to beat a dead horse. At this point I fully expect this thread to slowly fade down the front page and slip off into oblivion.

Re: Bill Parcells has opt-out clause, could walk away from Dolphins
oh my god,
BILL PARCELLS??? DAN, SNYDER, mr SNYDER, i hope your listening or reading this. PLEASE, PLEASE, do anything to bring the TUNA here. the nfc east foe, oh my (this is the sign), read the redskins history, learn something from Sam Huff trade. and your own past mistakes. THE TUNA, is the greatest coach/GM there is then NFL history. he = jerry west. as much as i loved Gibbs, esp. during 82-92, the man was 2nd only to Vince Lombardi, and now i have to admit, the the Lombardi trohpy should be renamed to the Parcells/Tuna trophy. Not only he had Gibbs number but he is the only proven success there is. either he can bring you playoffs but built the team to be a competitor and SB bound. HE IS THE GREATEST, (people read, do a little research, HISTORY) |

Re: Bill Parcells has opt-out clause, could walk away from Dolphins
Let's not forget the two times (Bucs and Falcons) that he agreed to join a team and then changed his mind before ever actually spending a single day as an employee (coach/GM) of the team.

Re: Bill Parcells has opt-out clause, could walk away from Dolphins
I would like having Bill in the FO for the skins. He really knows his shit, and can bring in some young talent, or develop what we've already brought in.
The smart move for him is to go though. What would you do, work the remaining time on your contract for 12 mil, or take the 12 mil and sign somewhere else for another contract with another 12 mil?

Re: Bill Parcells has opt-out clause, could walk away from Dolphins
Why the hell would the Danny want Parcells? Parcells would want the same arrangement Marty wanted in 2000, if not more. The Danny is about ego and power, not nearly as much as Jerry Jones, but still enough to affect his franchise.
