I'd rather have CP obviously, but I think that we may be pleasantly surprised by what Shaun Alexander can still do if he gets the nod.

Of the few carries that I've seen from Shaun Alexander, I've seen nothing from him to indicate that we'll have any semblance of a running game on Sunday night.

I'll bet Rock Cartwright looks a thousand times better than Alexander does.

Every time I think of Deion's nickname for SA, I can't help but laugh out loud. The Tiptoe Burglar! HA!

Seriously though, SA's first few games with us were essentially training camp/pre-season for him. He's got fresh legs and he's totally injury free, so there's a chance he looks okay for us this Sunday. I sure hope so.

He had one 9 yard run. He may not be Portis, but I don't think opposing D's can disregard him with our line. And Dallas' D has been soft, so he should be able to provide a good running game for us.

I'll give Alexander a pass for his first few games, now he should have his legs back under him and he should be familiar enough with the running game to be effective. If he wants to prove he can still play, here's his chance.

That said, I'm still hoping Betts can play and be effective.

If Portis does go, I think we risk our season, and we cannot afford that. Gotta go RB by comittee and hope that the other guys step up
Pretty much !

Re: Time for a good look at Shaun Alexander

Alexander fought his way back to the line of scrimmage in Detroit on a play that appeared to end in a loss. If the OL can get some actual holes, I'm not that pessimistic about the running game.

Also, this is from the above url.

# Ladell Betts, however, was back out, practicing with the running backs. He looked better than I expected — I had forgotten, during his injury, what a strong (what Zorn would probably call “violent”) runner he is — but Coach Zorn said after practice that he was still lacking burst. Betts, Shaun Alexander and Rock Cartwright all took some snaps with the first team.
# Alexander, incidentally, continues to look good, and not at all reticent to hit the hole or even block — he was getting as into the diving block drill (above) as anyone. Zorn described his play as “improved,” noting that “The way we we play is a little different than what we asked him to do in Seattle.”

I agree with that. I was'nt crazy about signing Alexander but if Portis can't go, and I'm not convinced he won't, Alexander might surprise some people. I would feel alot better with Betts in there though.

I'm on the sellers bandwagon. I know he wants the ball. GIVE IT TO HIM!

Re: Time for a good look at Shaun Alexander

I think SA might end up doing well. On most of his runs the defense has been in the backfield when he got the ball. And I remember him dragging a lot of people to get a first down. Let's hope for the best. (If Moss is on the field we should be able to run.)

Re: Time for a good look at Shaun Alexander

I mean, by all indications that I can tell...I think Betts is going to start and Alexander will end up backing him up. I'm pretty much expecting now Portis to be out. If both Betts and Portis are out, I really like Rock and hope he sees a good bulk of the carries to be honest with you. I feel like he's a really tough runner and will play alot like Portis. I have never been a huge Alexander guy...If we can just have some sembalance of a running attack, I think we'll be ok. Its really the pass blocking where I'm a little more concerned.

Why hasn't Sellers been more involved in the offense this year anyway? I am not understanding that. Is it because he is the only true fullback we have on the team?

Re: Time for a good look at Shaun Alexander

Portis is the face of this year's Washington Redskins. The Skins most likely will be without Portis against the Cowboys. That means the rest of the team will have to pull more weight. The defense will have to create turnovers to put the offense in easy scoring position. The offensive line will have to step up and create big holes for Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright and Shawn Alexander. Campbell will have to make good decisions and have an error free day. The receivers will have to step up and create big plays down field. I think the Skins can get it done. It will take a team effort.

Re: Time for a good look at Shaun Alexander

If portis is out then IMO Campbell has to step up and get some longer completions downfield to spread the Dallas defense out and keep them from putting 8 guys in the box. Lets not kid ourselves, SA is not even close to Portis and will not hit the holes like Portis does. If Campbell can't keep the defense honest, it will be a long evening.
