Can you believe we went a whole game without a false start or a delay of game. Utterly Amazing, i love Zorn already.

Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense

I was very critical of this hire but I must say I'm very very impressed with Jim Zorn. I know it's only one pre season game but how come I get the feeling that we're going to see a lot less delay of game/false start / illegal shift penaties. No more calling TO's on 4th down to kick FG's. So far so good.

I really like the formations and the routes the WR run. The blocking for the RB looks great. With healthy receivers and running backs, this offense looks incredible.

Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense

We seemed like a contemporary team the other night rather than a team stuck in a time warp. The players had a different swagger on offense, an enthusiasm not seen in years. Zorn called a nice game, I like that we weren't painfully predictable, yet only ran a few plays and formations (2 tight, 3 WR, Bunch). As the local media beats into our heads, there is a lot to learn and the offense is a 'work in progress', I think we're going to be just fine when we start the season.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense

Aside from the actual playbook, I was blown away from the accuracy and efficiency from all three QBs. Coach Zorn seems to know how to work on fundamentals with the QBs. There is no other way to explain a total of 2 incomplete passes between all 3 QBs (won't count Devine, he won't be on the team). When Campbell threw passes, his arm had that same hitch we saw in the videos of drills Zorn was running. It was a textbook throwing motion in a real game situation. Even Colt Brennan, despite throwing into double and triple coverage had pinpoint accuracy. He's never faced NFL defenders before but you couldn't tell. You can make an excuse with how far down on depth charts those Colts defenders were, but, compare how well Zorn's QBs looked compared to the Colts' QBs. Lorenzen looked horrid. How he was ever a backup for the Giants is a mystery to me. He should be cut from the roster pretty soon. Grey looked good though and could make a case for starting ahead of Sorgi, although I doubt it. Sorgi is like Todd Collins, a safe veteran.

Beyond playcalling, I believe Zorn will make his players better, especially QBs.

Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense

I like that the QB gets rid of the ball quickly. I do not like it when a QB holds on the ball too long. I am very happy with the offense system and the players.
The defense worries me. Our depth is a serious concern. I am also really concerned about our ability to stop the run. Many people are so happy about our improved pass rush, but if we do not stop the run first and foremost it will be a very long season. Who cares how many sacks we get if opponents are getting five yards a run.

Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense

The run D looked pretty good early on the other night considering a lot of the starters weren't in there.

Re: Let's talk Zorn/offense

Well we can go back and forth about if it was scrubs out there and who was actually playing but its the coaching that was important. We saw very few penalties, players not running around to get into position, QB's hitting their man, a guy jumping on the on side kick, etc...ect... Thats shows that the coaches are doing a good job and the front office doing a good job picking talent. Our scrubs looked better then the Colts and this was done with a new head coach and play book. Thats what I'm excited about and it seems as Zorn does know what he is doing. I know time will tell but we got off to a good start. One other thing about the QB's and receivers. They have done a great job getting on the same page as it seemed everyone knew where everyone was on the field.

As you've stated, this is the point. Preseason is all about execution and preparedness. The Skins got a B, in my opinion.

Last year, even after they won a preseason game, you just had this uneasiness about it all.

Good points, especially the latter. You could never point to one aspect and feel good about it. It never felt like the offense took on a true identity, it was more of a bipolar Gibbs/Saunders than a G/S fusion. I think having the head coach in control of the O & giving extra attention to the details of the qb might in itself be enough to improve the unit.

Redskins Insider

It's looking like the rookie wr's aren't likely to get in the rotation much by week 1. Zorn called em out! That's a big change from Gibbs' style. Joe would've said something like, "these guys are learning the pace of the nfl."

Both backup OTs out as well, reminds me of last year when Heyer got to step up. Rinehart gets a chance now.
