What I thought was more interesting was all the talk of how key practice seems to be (not to mention how CP says "Hopefully...I don't have to play Thursday.")

I guess I am not directing at you in particular, it is just frustrating everyone is taking normal quotes that anyone would say and blowing them out of proportion. No matter what Portis likes to do or doesn't whenever he is asked to do it he gives 100%. That is why he got injuried in preseason last year, he went all out to make a tackle. I am sick of people who question Portis because he speaks his mind and those same people get frustrated when other players give cliche answers to question. Portis is an honest player who gives it his all on the field, and that is all that matters.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the wording was to generate web hits, which it certainly has, both here and on SI.com.

I guess what hooskins is trying to get at is that when posting links of articles, try to lean less for the shock value and more for what the article is saying when choosing a title. This particular thread doesn't necessarily do it, but so many on the website are guilty of doing this.

If SI.com saw Portis sitting down outside the stadium before a game the title would read:

"Portis sits out week 1"

No worries. I was just concerned with that exact issue when I posted the thread.

So what's the difference between Portis and Iverson when it comes to practice?

He's probably just bored from sitting around in the Preseason and wanted to watch the media and people like you run around in a frenzy. He's done it before...many times.

Re: Portis Says This Year Could Be Last With Skins.

Question: If I am not mistaken Portis is entering his 4th year in Washington, if he did leave, what are the cap implications? If his knees are still bothering him it will be a struggle to attempt a trade.

Additionally the front office surrendered a 2nd round pick in 2004 for him, in addition to Champ Bailey. And if he does leave what type or return does Washington get back from his four years?

Now my point is simply that a second round pick in 2004 would now most likely be a starter in the lineup. Granted Portis was only 22 when he was traded and no one could see this knee issue coming then, but the position he plays dictates that he is gonna take hits and his body will wear down a bit faster. So why surrender a pro-bowl corner and a 2nd round draft pick if you only end up getting 4 years of production?

Arguabley Champ is at the top of his game (10 INT's in 2007), and looks to be a secondary force for Denver for years to come.

If the money and the trade does not justify an investment return for just 4 years, then there is another issue all together.

I really just don't get it...?

"Hopefully...I don't have to play Thursday."

The last time I checked he is employed and being paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PLAY FOOTBALL for the Washington Redskins.

I don't think they wanted him to play the entire game just a few reps...?
So I guess I didn't catch the breaking news that portis is the new owner, vice president, head coach, asst. head coach, etc.

Just shut the hell up, suit up and do what your BEING PAID A FORTUNE to do like every other employee is doing, playing ball, NOT CRYING about being to good to play a few reps in pre-season!

Simple as that!

Exactly, he's not saying "I dont want to be here after the season"...he's saying "If I dont produce, they're going to get rid of me"....

Which is probaboly correct.

Wow. I can belive he said that. Portis needs to get his but on the field and show why we all love him so much. If he wasn;t here in 2005 we would have not made the playoffs, same goes for this year. If he can;t produce like his first year here we aren't going to the playoffs. We Need You CP. Get healthy and play bro. Hail!!

CP is closing in on 10,000 yds for his career , that and knee & shoulder issues makes sence that he is going to slow down in a couple of years . If , and thats a big if ,,, his knee gives him problems this year , this is likely his last year here .

Re: Portis Says This Year Could Be Last With Skins.

Having read all the comments in this thread, I don't think anybody was over-hyping CP's statements. Nobody ever said CP wants to leave. Nobody is acting like the sky is falling. The basic sentiment here is that if CP can't stay healthy the skins may get rid of him. I think everyone agrees on that.

His knees are fine. I would certainly take Portis in his present condition over Julius Jones at any time. Champ Bailey was going to leave one way or another so they got something in exchange, which was the smart play.

Of course, if Portis can't play due to injury again it will be hard to hold on to him, but I see no reason to think that he will not be back to form this season. He is not Gale Sayers yet. His injuries last year were a dislocated shoulder and a broken hand. I suspect this tendonitis business is largely bunk. But we will know soon enough.

I heard the Portis quote on the radio and it was completely innocuos. He was saying basically the way of the NFL is produce or be gone. Leave it to the dullards at SI to twist his statements for their own purposes.

Also, I would point out that old broken down Clinton Portis had little trouble running around Greg Ellis and the rest of the Cowboys defense when they played here last year, injuries notwithstanding.

Without looking at the numbers, I think the cap ramifications largely depend on how he left. For instance, him being released as opposed to him being traded are two different animals and could have different cap results. But I would venture to say if we were to release him this year or next, there would be a cap hit. 'Aint gonna happen, I'm just saying.

As to your assertion that a 2004 2nd round pick would now be starting is speculation; Certainly not impossible, but who knows for sure. But the real question is, what type of production and impact would we be getting out of that 2nd round pick? Remember prior to last year, Portis has put up some nice numbers as a Redskin.

Finally, as to whether or not Portis has bad "knees". To the best of my knowledge, Portis has tendonitis in one knee, not both. And again, I don't think he's ever had knee surgery, or at least major knee surgery, so I don't think there's anything here to be overly concerned with. It's a condition that many running backs play with and can be very effective depending on its severity. Without knowing all the details or the extent of the "condition", (not injury) I fully anticipate Clinton Portis to be a beast this year and the next one and the one after that.
