No way I'm gonna let up on Haslettusdown now based on a couple plays. He has been below average since the day we got him.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

Here is my biggest issue with hiring anybody on the current staff to be our DC if we stay with the 3-4.

1) Haslett is terrible with the 3-4, even if Shanny undermined him on a few plays.

2) Morris has had no experience running the 3-4 until these last two years.

I'm not sold on any of these guys being our DC, and I think we will be starting out on the wrong note if we choose to go that route with this regime.

It's so bizarre this whole situation ... I really don't mind Morris as DC and Haslett taking demotion ... but i'd sure as hell much rather see Wade Phillips get his ass up in the booth ?

How Hasslett or Monty Kiffen both still have jobs is beyond comprehendable to me. Especially in todays nfl. Both futility record setters. They should have a love child and name it $hit.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

I don't see how Hasslett survives as a status quo DC. There is nothing substantial enough in his Redskins tenure to say the defense is on the correct track. I never felt that he and Morris meshed. I know we had poor DB talent but at times I felt that the secondary was on a different page.
MAYBE if Morris had more or primary input and the front office had more say so in delivering the talent needed for scheme. Otherwise I get sick thinking of the same defense we have had for the last 4 years.

I did not say I was for or against him staying. Jay Gruden is the head coach, and I think that he should pick his coaching staff. If he wants Haslett to be DC then I'm ok with that, if he wants to fire him completely I'm more than fine w/ that.

Maybe he will want to stay, I don't know the guy obviously, but from my perspective I would have a hard time remaining at my current job if I got demoted. I'd rather have the same job (where I was demoted to) somewhere else.

There may also be compelling personal reasons why he would like to stay in this area.

I see no reason why he wouldn't be a fine LB coach and contributor in defensive game planning.

The primary issue I have with him as DC is his play calling in crunch time.
I have no problem with him staying, it just seems like an interesting situation to me. I guess if Haslett is fine w/ the demotion then it won't be a huge deal. As I mentioned previously, I want Gruden to fill his staff as he sees fit, as long as everyone 100% buys into their roles. I don't want in-house fighting.

Personally, I'd prefer for Morris to be DC, seems like he gets the players to respond to him. What I would like even more, is to get some real talent on defense. Make any coaches life better.

If Gruden stays with a 3-4 defense then Hasslett should be let go (or not DC). I believe Morris should not experienced enough with a 3-4 defense to be DC. I just hope Gruden does not stay with a 3-4 defense....hasn''t worked for us in 4 years....

Difference between us and them is that they get paid millions of dollars plus there are only so many of these NFL coaching jobs. The move was made so fast that Gruden didn't even realize what happened. Hell he hasn't even watched any Redskins tape.

Neither did the 4-3. That's why we switched to the 3-4 in the first place.

Whether he actually gets to or not, I don't know, but I would prefer if he did. Just my perspective.

At his presser Gruden said he would pick his own coaches.
