Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Why do some people assume that signing Manning is a short term fix?
We can continue with whatever plan the FO has to rebuild the team. Peyton Manning just accelerates and elevates the quality of QB play and allows time to groom/try out several different QBs of the future while Peyton plays for 2-3 or more years. Last edited by 30gut; 03-07-2012 at 10:20 PM. |

If we get Manning, why not make a play for Blackmon at #6?

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
[QUOTE=Dirtbag59;893348]While I agree with not going after the short term fix according to Mike Jones the Redskins will basically tell Peyton that they'll be able to fix those problems through free agency and possibly the draft.[/QUOTE
My POV comes from a thinking that signing PM is not a short term fix. It may be a short term fix to the QB position, but on the other hand if we get 4 or 5 solid years out of him then it really isn't that short as an average NFL career is 3 years. Signing Peyton, gives us options in the draft. This is a deep draft and we can get some players out of this draft. We can grab a QB at some point ( by that I mean anywhere we please in the 1st to 7th round). We can trade back with our 6th pick and this would give the team more of a chance on hitting on some players. With more younger players we increase the chances of gaining quality players for this team. Trading away the top picks in the next two drafts and 2 other picks for one guy who may be great, good, average, or just plain Ryan Leaf just doesn't seem really smart for a long term fix.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Of course he hasn't. I mean the guy only watches infinity-billion hours of game film a week so he can have 5 different plans for virtually every look the defense throws at him. Not to mention he lives and breathes football and probably dreams about dreaming of football when he goes to sleep.......so yeah it's plausible.

What's up everyone. Life long Skin's fan here. I've been a member of Warpath for years but this is my first post. Bill Polian was on Mike and Mike in the Morning today and also confirmed that the video on YouTube is legit.
Because this is my first post I can't post the link but you can go to espn's website and then espn radio to listen to the audio. |

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
i dont see these spots as more attractive than we are. the cards dont have much cap room, they do have a stud WR in fitzgerald. the fins have a good defense, and Marshall at WR. the broncos have a ton of cap room but arent normally big spenders so it might be hard for them to land manning. Jets have a loose cannon as a coach, if people dont think manning and the shanahans cant coexist, how could rex ryan and manning. the seattle team we beat this year, they have less offensive weapons than we do IMO. yes they have lynch but not much else.

I see one team up there who would make sense from a winning standpoint. The Jets, really they are a side show now. Does he really want to go to his brother's city and play for those goof balls who share the Super Bowl champs stadium. The Fins, who are picking two measly spots behind us. Yeah there are some good things there and plenty of bad. New Coach, owner, blah blah. Seattle, really, really? Not even going to go here. Yeah go get your ass kicked by San Fran twice a year and live in the rain. The Broncos, now these guys could win with PM. Really the best possible option you have up there. The Cards, they have nice weather. I have heard this so many times in the past couple of weeks that I am so sick and tired of it. So a guy is going to go play somewhere because of the weather. Cards are big spenders now and have a great franchise? Why cause they went to the SB a few years ago and lost. They have a great WR. wow. Who knows where the guy goes? I am just sick of hearing about all of the reasons this guy is going here or there. We will see. We can offer the guy a SB winning coach, a chance to become the king of DC, a chance to kick his brothers ass twice a year, and a promise to build something great quickly. We have a defense, give us an offense and you are damn right we can make the playoffs and who knows once you get in.
