Re: Our next coach??

Regardless of his lack of success in college Weis is a proven NFL coordinator. He's not going to have a problem getting a job in the NFL. Some guys just aren't cut out for head coach, and the college game is a different animal. Success there doesn't always translate to the NFL and vice versa.

Re: Our next coach??

^ I respect that thought. Maybe Weis gets a job and lights it up. I'll happily eat my crow if I'm wrong.

I see Crennel or people talk about him and I see all the NFL networks commercials running through my head.

Edit: sorry Coors light commercials.

Can someone atleast pick a college coach that is having a winning season and maybe has had one for several yrs if we are going to dip into the college ranks again? Preferably one that utilizes a pro style of system.
I don't know who that would be cause I'm not into college so have fun looking into names. I just know when I hear that a man is either fired or resigns at the college level does not give me the warm fuzzy feeling to bringing him in to the Skins.

Carmichael and Christensen may not be more proven but they are currently OCers for winning teams right now that are 10-0 vs. a college coach with a losing record Weis. I'll take the other two over Weis.
Weis, as Matty pointed out, has proven himself to be an effective and successful offensive coordinator for many years in the NFL. Don't confuse what he accomplished as a college head coach with what he has and can accomplish as an NFL offensive coordinator. Plus, as has been mentioned previously, offense was not really the problem at Notre Dame. It was the defense. The defense gave up 30 points 6 times this season. 3 of those times, Notre Dame's offense scored 30 points and they still lost

Also, Carmichael (former Marty disciple) doesn't really call the plays in New Orleans. Not that his contributions during the week aren't important.

And let's see how good Christensen would be as offensive coordinator with say Ryan Fitzpatrick as his QB, and not Peyton Manning

Aren't the Texans ranked in the top 10 in offense? Weren't they in the top 5 last year?

I think they've scored at least 3 touchdowns in a game six or seven times this year.

Under Kubiak the offense is 8th in yards this year and 11th in points. Defense is 17th in yards, 18th in points.

Last year they were 3rd in yards and 17th in points. Defense was 22nd in yards, 27th in points.

I would say offense really isn't their problem. Kubiak may be one of those guys better suited for a coodinator position over HC I think.

Then perhaps Weis would be a good OC. Carmichael may not call the plays but according to his bio he is instrumental in helping develope the plays/scheme and designing each weeks game plan. but you are correct calling plays maybe a whole nother ball game for him. Unless he could find someone who could do that for him.

I'm not sure what side of the ball Kubiak leans towards. If you go and look at Houston now I think all their yrds are from passing which they are either middle of the pack to top 10. Rushing yrds I think the Skins are better then them right now. That could be who they have running the ball though.

At first glance I thought Smoot was refering to my asking who in the college ranks with a winning record would be good and Texas is 12-0.

Cincinnati 11-0
Ohio State 10-2
Iowa 10-2
Penn State 10-2
Georgia Tech 10-2

Again I don't watch college ball. I'm just throwing teams out there that have decent records right now. Others may be better at decifering which coach's have been winners year in and year out and which coach's would most likely transfer to the pros better. It might even be one with a losing record simply cause he didn't have the players needed or injuries.

Which is what I think Skinsfan69, myself, and others have been talking about. I don't think any of us, definitely not me, are calling for him to be our next head coach.

Kubiak was a QB coach, so I'd imagine he leans toward passing

He's an offensive guy.

Re: Our next coach??

Ok, I took the time to google and look up Weis in Wiki. It was dificult for me I'll have you know. LOL. Just kidding.

Here's the important part.....

He served as offensive coordinator under head coach Bill Belichick from 2000 through 2004, installing the Erhardt - Perkins offensive system, and assisting the Patriots in three Super Bowl victories (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX).

I guess my question is what is the "Erhardt-Perkins offensive system"? Who was Erhardt and Perkins? Cause Weis is a deciple of Bill Parcells.

So you looked up Weis but why not just look up Erhardt - Perkins offensive system too? Anyway here's your answer:

Ummm, pure lazyness? Sorry. Actually I didn't even think to look up the system. Weird. I immediatly thought to go there to see what they had on Weis then I guess my brain shut down. LOL.

Re: Our next coach??

So now looking at the material picking up Weis might not be a bad idea but obviously Shanahan would not be the right HC for his system. I think Shanahan runs a type of WCO. So who do we pick up as HC?

Re: Our next coach??

If we hire Shanahan I doubt Weis would be considered at all.
