Bill Walsh one of the best QB evaluaters always preached footwork is the most important fundamental of QB play. Watch their feet, are they decisive and throw or do they look unsure. Rosen looks unsure.

The problem with footwork related to sports it has to be instinctive, it can be a deal breaker. If you aren't a natural you can be in trouble, sometimes a problem that is never cured. Different sport, but to me a funny story none the less. I boxed in my youth as an amateur and also trained people to box, nothing serious mostly for self defense purposes. The first thing a person needs to learn is foot placement in regard to balance stability and to be in position to throw the most effective punches.

Some people you would show them once and they felt comfortable and got it, the naturals as I call them. On the flip side I had guys that would look down at their feet during sparring sessions. I am pretty sure you do not have to be a boxing expert to realize that does not turn out well.

Amen. Footwork and foot placement is key to all sports.
I also coach, Soccer, football and baseball. Coaching kids has taught me a lot about human nature. Sometimes it’s like herding cats. But what I quickly learned is they all want to be great immediately, but they find learning fundamentals like footwork boring. They want to be scoring, celebrating, showing off, fame with out putting in the hard work. How did Rosen get to be a second year NFL pro and not have good footwork?
Below is not the video I was looking for, but it talks more about Bill Walsh’s always stressing footwork to his QB’s and what I imeadiately see as troubling in Rosen. He has work to do to break his bad habits.

I will admit at the age of 16 I was guilty of that. I had already been boxing for a couple years mostly as a sparring partner for an older friend. More like a punching bag for an older friend, ha,ha. Anyway a couple of friends and I decided to try karate. It was a class of all beginners. I think the first 3 lessons were all on the proper fighting stance and foot positioning for balance.
Of course I had joined up to learn how to break boards and bricks, unhappy with the progress of the teaching I quit. It really wasn't for me anyway, required too much flexibility and finesse.

Walsh was also a major proponent of perfect ball placement so the receiver catches the ball shielded from the defender and never breaks stride. Another thing done in his practices over and over and over.

I was a 49er fan living in California from the early 70's till 2010 when I moved East and jumped on the Redskin's bandwagon. I still poked my nose in 49er fan websites till a couple years ago. What I found odd is some old school fans like me that followed the team during the Walsh era all excited about Colin Kaepernick. Many thought he was just going to be a bigger and stronger Steve Young with tattoos.

I was never impressed and predicted he would flame out. While physically gifted he was fundamentally a complete mess. Inconsistently poor footwork that effected accuracy. He also had happy feet, leaving the pocket way too early. He stared down receivers, etc, etc. Worse yet it was a known fact he did not like working on the fundamentals of the game. I was stunned he even succeeded as long as he did.

Unfortunately for people like Kaepernick if the physical talent can mask fundamental flaws coaches at the college level don't seem to insist they perfect them.
