He knocks down a lot of passes. Pretty much one per game.

Cofield is very active for a NT and draws a double team based on his ability to show up on film. That sounds great, but ultimately, he gets moved around a bunch in the running game, particularly on draws. It's not a lack of discipline, it's just his player type. He's disruptive, but not particularly quick or strong for the position.

The true test for Cofield is if he wears down over the course of the season or not. If he's playing like this in December, I'd say you have the long term solution at NT. If he's just getting knocked around, they'll need someone else to execute the defense.

I know it is really hard to notice the production of 3-4 NTs, but seeing Cofield getting manhandled by the Giants' rookie center in week one was very disappointing. I think he's had some good games here and there, but I just don't see him having the same effect that a NT like Hampton or Wilfork (when the Pats ran the 3-4). I just think that Cofield would be more productive as a DE instead of NT.

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

I think Mike/Bruce walked into a hornets nest and came out alive ... they managed to get rid of the problems while building the RIGHT way. This season had us all drinking mad kool-aid at 3-1 and that's OK. Our defense is playoff caliber and you know what , if we are building our YOUNG defense first that's fine with me. Helu, Hankerson, Austin, Paul, Davis, Williams, Monty (his is a better C than you think), Paulsen, hell i'll even throw in Torrain & Hightower (just have a feeling he will be back & Cooley) .. this is a young offense learning while we have a young defense that has learned .. Bowen(only 4-5 years in league) , Jenkins next year ?? , Landry, OJ I like .. Gomes is going to be special I think . Love Neild at NT ... Kerrackpo are among leagues best .. d-hall has a solid 4 years left being a top CB .. Wilson will work out fine ... we can probably pick up a solid CB in free agency next year .. focus draft on QB ... How about the dude from Baylor .. Griffin III .... give some damn patience Redskins Nation .. you bitch about change so for once give us a second to let Shanny roll with the punches for MINIMUM 3 YEARS i'm down for all 5. Either way, could be worse, you could be the EAGLes who spent millions upon millions and I believe have the same record as us ? Good luck to Becky to get a W down in Miami .. 4-5 with Dallas on the plate .. who knows ... take it in people we are rebuilding and it's going to pay off dramatically for years to come.

"They managed to get rid of the problems while building the RIGHT way" They got rid of a few problem children; that is for sure and that is surely positive. Building a team where the QB options are Rex Grossman and John Beck is NOT - - let me repeat NOT - - the RIGHT way. Building a team that carries 8 or 9 WRs (only one of whom is worth the powder it would take to blow him away) and 2 back-up OL is not the RIGHT way.

"dhall has a solid 4 years left as a top CB"
Not sure he is a "top CB" now. 64 CBs start every week in the NFL. Just a guess but there are at least a dozen - - and probably 20 that are as good or better than he is.

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

Wide variety of coaching candidates available - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Potential HC Candidates include Jim Useless, and Shanahan II? Say it ain't so!

I don't see HC potential in either one, frankly! Can we all say: OVERRATED!!!

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

I remember when Dick Vermeil was hired to coach the Rams in 1997, here is his record.
1997 ( 5-11)
1998 (4-12)
1999 (13-3) Super Bowl Champs
His first 2 seasons everyone was calling for him to be fired, he cant coach any more etc...
He left to coach KC and here is his record
2001 (6-10)
2002 (8-8)
2003 (13-3)
2004 (7-9)
2005 (10-6)

I think Dick Vermeil is simular to Mike Shannahan during his career. Dick Vermeil won 1 Suoer Bowl with Kurt Warner and had success with Trent Green in KC.
Vermeil coached the Eagles from 1976-1982 and went to the Super Bowl in 1980 with Ron Jaws as his QB, They lost to the Raiders. Looking at his success Vermeil had a Great QB in Kurt Warner 2 good QB's in Green and Jaws.
Shanny needs to get his QB to get this franchise back to winning.

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

My intuition is after Shanny leaves or gets fired there will be disclosure at some point he wasn't doing much with the team. The players clearly aren't motivated, inspired by him and there's no way the offensive scheme and overall coordination could really be this bad with a full-time HC.

...Mike has always been a money guy and I really doubt he's much concerned with the team's performance while earning a guaranteed $5 mil per year. Perfect circumstances gave him two championships.

My sentiment exactly. How to you watch film and not know McNabb throws dirt balls, or Grossman throws INTs for no reason, or Doughty is horrible at safety. They act like they are surprised at these things.

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

Mike Shanahan is a very good coach. But his job becomes 1000% harder when he makes personnel decisions. If he concentrated on just being the head coach, then the Redskins would be a much better team. Since Bruce Allen is the GM, I've always wondered just how much he's involved in player evaluations, scouting potential collegiate players and free agents, and acquiring players in general. I'm not saying that a head coach can't be the head coach and be in charge of his roster, but does anyone have enough braincells to be able to do both jobs?

I say do it the way it's supposed to be done. Let Bruce Allen choose the players, and let Mike Shanahan coach them.

Re: What's your take on our coaching?

I was going to start a new thread on this but now I dont feel like putting in the effort. Most of the bitching on this thread has been about the Shanahans, but what about Haslet?
Last yr the skins & texans were 2 of the worst if not the worst defenses in football.Skins had switched to 3-4 as we all know and it didnt work out well.
This yr the texans switch to a 3-4 with a new coach and no offseason to work on it.Theyre number 1 in the nfl on defense without their star player Mario Williams. So in less than a season Wade phillips has turned that defense around and we still suck.
Do you think its coaching? I dont see a big talent difference in the 2 teams.Or is it our offense sucks so ****ing bad the defense is not getting enough rest?

Well the Texans had a good offense already, but they couldn't get a defense decent enough to help them win games when it counted. But you are right, I think Phillips has done a good job in the 3-4 conversion. I wonder if he has done a better job at adapting his scheme to his players, rather than the other way around.
