Re: Marty Schottenheimer is better than Joe Gibbs

Gibbs is a good motivator, except his offense falls on its face in the 4th quarter.

Re: Marty Schottenheimer is better than Joe Gibbs

The biggest problem with the 4th quarter offense is that they play not to lose. It's ridiculous. Brunell throws balls away when they need yards more than anything, he doesn't give anyone a chance. It's retarded.

Defense has let us down the last three weeks, including this one. You can't deny that fact.

i agree 110% on that one. whenever gibbs has any sort of lead, whether it's 3 points, 1 point, or 2 points, he never plays with a sence of urgency. He doesn't go for the kill, he goes for the wound. What i mean by that is he'll be satisfied if we have any sort of lead. It has hurt us 3 times in the last three games, and he needs to start being aggressive on offense in the fourth quarter if he wants to win some more games.

No.
Your post is not a question but a statement. Please back it up with as much data as you have before making unfounded statements.

So what is your data for such a broad statement other then this game today?
Super Bowl Rings?
Halll of Fame?

skinsguy - that's a hard line for you to protect. The offense, more specefically, Joe Gibbs offense, has cost us the last three games. Marty just outcoached Gibbs without a doubt.

How do you figure he outcoached him? Looks like they took the same approach in similar situations. Chargers players just executed better

Look. Our defense held this offense all day long, and when it comes to the point in the game where it counts to most to hold them, they don't get the job done. Then of course, we just saw what happened in overtime. That is all on the defense. They made some good plays, but they made some stupid mistakes as well. If you're going to nip pick about the offense, you must also be aware of the mistakes the defense made as well. This is on the defense.

I was asking Cpayne about this, and I'll ask the rest of you. Are these guys lacking the stamina to play aggressive for 4 quarters? I mean I'd hate to say they're conditioned poorly but sometimes I wonder if that isn't one of the problems

That's a good question. People who are blaming this on the offense need to realize a couple of things. First of all, Portis is pretty much having to carry the load. With Betts being out, you lose a very good change up back that compliments Portis - that is going to hurt offensive production. Next, we lose David Patten and all though he hasn't had a spectacular year, like Tony McGee said last week, he is a very valuable guy to lose. This puts more pressure on Moss. You couple that with guys like Robert Royal who can't even catch a cold, that is going to hurt offensive production. When we're having key guys playing hurt or being out of the lineup on our offense, it puts more pressure on the defense to step up and carry the load. Of course we have also had key injuries on the defense as well, but when it comes to the fourth quarter, our defense can stand up to the pressure.

I will say this though, although I stand firm that this was a defense let down when it counted the most, at least the defense did try to make up for their let downs and mistakes by getting some turnovers, which is a step in the right direction. AND...that holding penality on Casey Rabech cost us a very makeable, winning field goal. However, I do believe this defense is only good for three quarters, and our offense isn't strong enough to make up for our defense running out of gas in the fourth, and the same goes in the other direction.

Point - both the offense and defense are too average to carry either one to a victory in close games.
