Re: Kicker situation

I'm actually surprised to see so many people this high on Hall. I have nothing against the guy (in fact I like his intensity for a kicker), but has anyone really looked at his numbers? He's lifetime 182-247 (73.7%) overall and 41-71 from 40-49 (57.7%) and only 13-27 from 50+ (48.1%). Those numbers are actually painfully average to below average for a veteran NFL kicker. I still think he's better than Chandler, but I wouldn't mind an upgrade at kicker sometime down the road.

I think Hall will be the guy.... but I say let them battle it out in training camp. I defintley like Chandler; and I hope if Hall beats him out, we can find a way to keep him around incase of injury. I think Hall is proboably the better kicker though.

Re: Kicker situation

Hall is definitely better if he can stay healthy. If not Chandler isn't too bad of a back up but not on long kicks. What's Mark Mosely up to these days???

Re: Kicker situation

If either Hall or Chandler is injured coming out of the exhibition season, then the decision is made for the Skins. However, if both are healthy, the Skins will almost assuredly release one of them. I don't see them carrying and dressing two kickers for every game.

That is the reason that "dangling one of them" even in a package with Morton - who is also someone with next to zero trade value - will get you very few return phone calls. Teams know that the Skins will likely release one of the kickers and so they'll wait to see who is out there and decide if that is an upgrade to what they have,

Side issue here: The idea of packaging Morton and Hall as trade bait is really interesting since it is half of the "Jetskins" raid that Danny Boy allegedly put over on those stupid NY Jets. All of a sudden, half of the haul from that raid is trade bait that might garner a seventh round draft pick and some rolls of tape for the training staff whilst another guy stolen in that raid is back with the Jets but with a load of Redskins' money in his pocket. I wish the archives of this board went all the way back to the days when the Jetskins raid was front sports page news because NO ONE here would have ever thought this would be the outcome so shortly afterwards.

The bottom line is that Chandler is a decent back-up but not someone who is nearly good enough to be an elite kicker in the league. Hall is better but is also short of elite status.

Re: Kicker situation

Ya... and we signed Deion Sanders, Bruce Smith and Mark Carrier.
Sounds like we needed someone in DC that had some talent evaluation skills.

azskinsfan:

Even though I know you don't really want to find Mark Moseley to re-sign him as the Skins' kicker for 2005/06, I'll tell you what he was doing as of two years ago. He was the Athletic Director at Colgate University.
