Carriker also is coming off an injury and even when he was played he really showed nothing. Jarmon is also coming off an injury. Not sure how Carter fits in with the new defense. Holiday is got to be on the other side of 35 and has bounced around the last hfew years. I'd say the only guy that we can 100% count on is Orakpo.
agreed. Why change the D.......Our offensive line was offensive. Change that.

I think this is signing is more of a message if anything else to AH. Don't want to be part of the team then step aside!!!! Holliday hopefully plays his ass off in August and makes the team. I am sure the FO is still mulling over a potential AH trade.

Yeah this is the way i see it too. A lot of old guys, injuries, and question marks. And it’s not like our LB corps is exactly proven in a 3/4 scheme or flush with experience for the change.

I think your scenario is right, and we will have a flex front, where we may show 3 DL and then have Orakpo or the other side OLB walk up pre snap to change the look. I am excited about the DL potential

We really have to go back a-ways to a time when we had a D/L this flexible. Will be interesting to see out of all the new additions, just which one's make the final roster.

Depending on how much the 3-4 is going to be deployed during the course of the season, there may be more of a need to keep D/L - L/B types, the breakdown will certainly be worth watching. For far too long we have been less than enthused about the D/L this time of year.

It's definitely going to look different than the defense we've seen the last couple of years. Not as predictable.

Anytime you change a D there are going to be question marks. That shouldn't scare you away from making a change though.

meh. not particularly excited about the guy. IMO we've got ALOT of very mediocre players on our Dline. our best Dlineman is nowhere to be found and our 2nd best (carriker) is widely considered a bust but i'm hoping he can resurrect his career here. i'm not very confident in our front 7 at all. glad we atleast have competition though.

I don't know BHA, I think from a line perspective, we have a couple steller guys for once the season starts, AH, Kemo, AC, Orakpo, and then some substitution guys, Carriker, Jarmon, AC, and then the others, which should give us the ability to rotate and utilize a lot more looks and pressures. But until the season it's all conjecture.
edit
BHA, I would love to know what if any move the Skins could make at this point that would elicit an optimistic response from you.

donvan mcnabb, trent williams, and phillip buchannon off the top of my head. then there are a ton of non-moves that i loved. i just dont see how picking up half a dozen mediocre dlinemen is something to get excited about.

If not, you have lost very little, but the chance of gaining one, two, or even three gems is worth the risk.

exactly.. we've been complaining about poor depth/backups for awhile.. and now that we're signing guys to COMPETE for a backup role that weren't already on our roster we have guys flippin out like they're being penciled in as starters just from the signing

All the question marks have some upside.

Vonnie Holliday

Redskins signed DE Vonnie Holliday, formerly of the Broncos.
Holliday is 34, but was one of the most productive per-snap 3-4 ends in the game last season, so he's certainly worth a look as a rotational body. He also has experience in the 3-4 as a five-technique with the Dolphins and Broncos. The more interesting aspect of this addition is that it could be a sign the 'Skins are still trying to trade Albert Haynesworth. SI's Ross Tucker is hearing that talks between the Vikings and Redskins are still alive.
If this is true, he sounds solid as a backup/rotating player. His sack numbers look good for not being a full-time player over his career.
