DeSean Jackson went right after our Fred Davis pick, but before we selected Malcolm Kelly. I suppose the logic was that we already had a guy like Jackson in Santana Moss. I hated the Davis pick at first, but it grew on me when I saw the guy's athletic ability during the preseason. I hope that all of our rookie receivers make an impact soon.

yeah, we already have a "desean jackson" that's why. Man, after all the clamoring around here for some "tall" receivers, we go out and get two and people wonder why we didn't take the little guy. LOL.

Could you have imagined the reaction to taking Jackson when all we've heard the past few years is how we need a big WR?!

Gotta love hindsight.

Re: When will the rookie WR's make an impact?

Thomas is on the field A LOT already, but he doesn't yet have Campbell's trust. They like his blocking ability on the outside and will try to run him vertical behind the defense.

However, a lot of the Redskins passing game is three step drops and getting the ball out quickly to a player that Campbell decided on presnap. Because of the position Santana Moss plays in the offense, he is often going to be Campbell's presnap read. Devin Thomas doesn't yet have Campbell's trust since he's not usually where Campbell wants him.

The 2-3 plays Malcolm Kelly has actually been in on, it seems like Campbell does trust him a bit more. However, he's not doing a whole lot of good on the inactive list every week.

I want to see more Fred Davis.

Malcolm Kelly being inactive these last two weeks meant no empty backfield packages for Campbell. Right now, that's his role on the team, 4th WR.

We need to worry about Malcolm Kelly getting healthy before we can worry about him producing. His injury situation is starting to become ridiculous. Devin Thomas is on the field a lot, but it doesn't seem like Zorn and Campbell feel comfortable throwing him the ball yet. I have seen a few plays where Thomas is wide open and Campbell doesn't even look at him. I think the coaches need to find a way to get Davis on the field more. He hasn't had very many opportunities.

Thomas needs to earn the trust of JC, when he does that he will get his fair share of looks. Kelly just needs to get on the damn field.

Re: When will the rookie WR's make an impact?

I think right now we are in a great situation. With Tana, ARE, and Cooley playing the way they are, we have the luxury of allowing these guys to keep learning the system while we win games. Devin Thomas seems to be giving good effort and should become a great deep threat. I have visions of him and Tana going deep with Cooley and ARE (or Davis) going medium routes and Portis coming out of the backfield on a short route. I was most impressed with Kelly early on and it sounded like Jason was high on him too. I just hope he's not injury prone because this guy could come close to making this "O" unstoppable. I think Davis will work his way in more often as Zorn works more plays into the "O". Not a bad situation any way you look at it. Like I've said before, when these guys start contributing and this offense becomes second nature to our starters... WATCH THE F#*K OUT! .....Oh yeah, and Jason has only started 4 games in this system and has the best rating of his pro life.

Agreed, I've said that too. According to the experts we don't have the weapons that the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles have, that's BS!! When these guys start producing and my feeling is that it will be sooner than later, then you better have your defense ready to play us. The key to all this is our OL needs to keep doing the job they've done so far in protection.

Hopefully they do start producing, but until then they can't be considered weapons. Receivers have a much harder time making it in the NFL which is why teams tend to shy away from them in the top rounds. How many top picks have we wasted at this position in the past? These guys haven't done anything yet to prove they will pan out. Luckily Moss, ARE, Cooley and Portis have picked it up and JC seems to be settling in and making smart decisions.

yeah, I really feel we need to address the oline in the draft next year (1-3) primarily at Center and Guard, which luckily usually come in round 3 and later. We seem to be set at the skill positions on Offense for the foreseeable future (maybe we could look for a complimentary back for portis...).

Re: When will the rookie WR's make an impact?

Thomas will have an impact sometime this year. As GTripp said he's already playing. He just needs to get his feet wet and earn JC's trust. Kelly can't even practice so I'm not sure if we'll see much of this guy until next year. And Davis hasn't even been active. But as long as the vets are playing at a high level we don't need these guys quite yet.

Re: When will the rookie WR's make an impact?

A lot of comments about trust, which is probably true, but also, if my belief in Zorn is well founded why not hold back some of what you want to do (Thomas for example) until people start stopping what you are doing. I can think of alot of games in the second half of the season where defenses will still trying to be figuring out Zorn's tendencies. With Kelly, if he needs time to heal, then thankfully we seem to be able to afford it (knock on wood) .
This question seems alot more appropriate only if our goto guys are struggling or worse injured.

Re: When will the rookie WR's make an impact?

I've been wondering were they are, but thankfully our starters Moss, Are and Cooley are doing fine so it allows are rookies to come along slowly and learn the play book probably (fingers crossed) their time will come.
